A to Z Phonics. Resources, printables, lessons, etc
Unit is designed to help teachers combine phonics &reading instruction w/ study of poetry. Teaching specific skills through
poetry will allow teachers to cover both skills & content within
same lesson; thereby saving important instructional time while deepening content & improving instruction. Easy center ideas are included w/ each lesson to extend the content into independent practice. These teaching techniques can later be used w/ other poetry or literature so that phonics skills are taught within a literary framework rather than in isolation.(Abstract) free download from the Core Knowledge Web site
Purpose is to provide a unique & fun learning experience for toddlers all the way up through 2nd grade school aged children. Goal is not simply to turn kids onto reading, but to stimulate imagination & creativity through the unique activities that accompany each story. Stories were developed to teach wholesome values through positive, moral themes. All the Story Time For Me stories focus on socially relevant & family oriented issues, & the post-story prompts promote discussion.
