Need to teach different types of writing - this doesn't come naturally - the fact it's dropping off is not to do with txting.
Types of writing have changed.
The unfamiliar genre projects. New literacies.
Digital writing also has genres - need to explore them and work with kids to understand why you would want to use them in different contexts.
Digital writing allows students to get feedback from a much larger audience, more quickly. Kids are looking for more timely and authentic feedback. Influence applies in the same way. Amplify their voice.
Is putting a book report on a blog innovative? No. What helps students develop their voice?
