    While everyone seems to agree that corresponding via the Internet is conducive to being thorough, some have difficulty in understanding the words used become permanently linked to them in the future. Therefore, words chosen to express oneself should be as carefully orchestrated, just as the creation of a letter mailed.

    • destroying online communities. Etiquette online is not just nice to have, it is necessary.
      • Using appropriate etiquette is important to be accepted, but sometimes it is necessary to get what you want. Being nice isn't always an easy task, but once the "send" button posts, the information is in there.

      • Etiquette is much more than using words of kindness. Respecting someone's privacy and time is just as important.

    • I love a good midday dish session over IM as much as the next person. But there are a couple of people on my buddy list who just keep sending me messages, even after I tell them I should be getting back to work. I don’t want to be rude, but I can’t chit-chat the day away — how do I graciously extricate myself from an IM chat that’s gone on way too long? — Inundated with IMs
      • Good manners and etiquette go beyond using kind words to an individual. A responsible and courteous person is aware of time infringement as much as what they are stating.

    Using etiquette by determining if the materials are appropriate for everyone is generally safe.

      • Proper etiquette is anything that anyone can see, without offending yourself for sharing it.

    • ask yourself if you would be comfortable with your boss or your mom seeing the photo. Or, if you would be OK with the photo on the front cover of a major newspaper.
