This NSW design challenge is the initiative of TiPS (Technology in Primary Schools) and provides various opportunities for students and teachers to be involved in real world challenges for personal and community benefit. It offers four different challenges at different levels, all involving various community and government associations and is a good way for teachers to get students involved in meaningful design challenges.
This website is based around the TV show ‘Design Squad’ and offers a variety of design challenges aimed at 9-12 year olds. The design challenges can be downloaded and have instructions about materials and procedures required for each. There are also links to an educators and teachers guides about how to implement these challenges.
The website for the popular TV show 'New Inventors' is a valuable resource for teachers to show the designs that adults and children have come up with in response to particular problems they have identified. There are links to the various inventions and videos from the show and the inventions by young people are of particular interest.
