    • Hesperia Elks kick off scholarship program  Once again the Hesperia Elks Scholarship Committee has kicked off the scholarship program for 2004-05 by hand-carrying student application packets to each of the seven high schools in the Hesperia and Phelan areas. Of the seven, four are comprehensive high schools and three are continuing high schools.  Twelfth-graders may select one of the five applications including most valuable student awards FFD vocational, grant awards, legacy awards and the Gene Shafer Memorial Awards. The Gene Shafer Awards (U.S. Bonds) are granted to student FFDrunner-upsFFD who are oustanding students but who do not qualify for the highly competitive awards.
    • Apply soon for Elks National Foundation scholarships   The Elks National Foundation awards $2.216 million in college scholarships to 500 high school seniors nationwide through its most valuable student scholarship contest. High school seniors who are United States citizens and will attend an accredited four-year college are eligible. The judging criteria is scholarship, leadership and financial need.  Scholarships include 500 four-year awards, two, $60,000 scholarships, two, $40,000 scholarships, two, $20,000 and 494 $4,000 scholarships. Additional scholarships granted by the Elks are legacy awards to any child, grandchild, step-child, step-grandchild or legal ward of a living Elk member. The emergency educational fund grant program provides financial assistance to children of deceased or totally disabled Elks.  Applications are available at www.elks.org, the local Elks Lodge and high schools. Students attending Flippin, Cotter, Norfork, Viola, Mountain Home and Gainesville and Bakersfield, Mo., may contact counselors at the schools.
    • Scholarships now available from the Elks Thursday, November 18, 2004  The Wakefield Lodge of Elks announces the beginning of the 2004-2005 scholarship season. There is a variety of opportunities for the general public. Last year the Wakefield Lodge was able to give a total of $31,150 to the students of the local lodge and the communities of Lynnfield, North Reading, Reading, and Wakefield.
    • Elks holding scholarship contest  The Elks National Foundation of the Elks of the USA and the Pontiac Elks Lodge #1019 announces the availability of applications for its Most Valuable Student scholarship contest.  This year, the foundation will award $2.216 million in college scholarships to a total of 500 high school seniors nationwide through this contest.  The top male and female recipient each will receive $60,000 over four years; the runner-up male and female each will receive $40,000 over four year and the third-place award male and female each will receive $20,000 over four years. In addition to the top six scholarships, the foundation will award 494 scholarships of $1,000 a year for four years.
    • Roseburg Elks select two scholarship winners   February 21, 2005  Roseburg High School students Jessica Parker and Eric Titus received the Most Valuable Student Scholarship from the Roseburg Elks Lodge 326.  Parker and Titus will receive $1,000 from the Roseburg Elks Lodge. They also competed and placed third in the district contest Feb. 12 at the Coos Bay Elks Lodge, and will receive $1,200 each from the Oregon State Elks Association.  They were chosen based on financial need, community service, honors and awards, leadership and participation in activities and organizations.  Parker and Titus will be honored at the Roseburg Elks Lodge Annual Youth Banquet March 5.
    • Marshfield student to compete for nationwide scholarship from Elks World Photo by Dan Schreiber      At right, Marshfield High School senior Erin Miller, 17, will compete on the national level for a college scholarship through the Coos Bay Elks.  Miller has already won $4,800 in local, district and state money for college and stands to receive up to $60,000 if she wins at the national level. Miller said she'd like to attend Yale University or Columbia University in New York and study political science or physics.  "I think it provides a groundwork for an entire career," Miller said about college.  At left, Andrew Greif, 17, a North Bend High School senior won an Elks local scholarship. He will attend the University of Oregon to study journalism.

"I don't really accept B's very well."  Still, she was glad to hear the news.   "I was proud that the work finally paid off," said Stewart, who has a 4.52 grade point average.   Stewart said her parents, Mark and Shirley Stewart, have always pushed her to work hard.
    • Richmond Elks Lodge No. 649 has honored youth for their efforts in several competitions and recognized the teachers who supported and encouraged them. Framed certificates were presented during the Fifth Annual Youth Recognition Dinner for successes in the scholarship, essay, soccer shoot and hoop shoot competitions.
    • ENF's Emergency Educational Grant Program Reaches Out to Elk Families By IPR Jun 26, 2005, 18:56  Email this article  Printer friendly page  CHICAGO, IL -- Applications are now available for the 2005-06 Elks National Foundation Emergency Educational Grant program. The program provides financial assistance to children of deceased or totally disabled Elks, who wish to obtain or further their college education.  Applicants must demonstrate financial need to qualify for a grant. In addition, the applicant must be unmarried, under the age of 23 at the time of applying, and be attending a U.S. college or university as a full-time undergraduate student.
    • 14-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TONIGHT BY THE DOTHAN ELKS LODGE NUMBER 1887. THE SCHOLARSHIPS WERE PRESENTED TO THE STUDENTS AT A DINNER CEREMONY. THOSE WHO RECEIVED THE AWARDS ARE NICHOLAS ADAMS, ELANA BARRETT, BENJAMIN CHENEY, DIANE MORRILL, CHARLSIE SMITH, CORY SMITH AND KATHERINE WARE.
    • Temecula Valley Elks #2801 honored six students and their families at a recent dinner. The lodge presented awards and certificates to the six winners of the lodge competition for the Elks National Scholarship contest. Each winner received a scholarship from the Temecula Valley Elks Lodge to help with college expenses. Scholarship applications were judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need.
    • Milton Elks awards scholarship, elects female Exulted Ruler  MILTON — The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 913 of Milton has announced that Devin Weaver of New Columbia has won a four-year scholarship through the Class of 2006 Most Valuable Student Scholarship.
    • Travis M. Slesinski, 17, of Bourne village is the top-ranked student in the BHS Class of 2006 and its valedictorian. He will study psychology at Boston College in September and aims for its pre-medical training program.   Slesinski played soccer and ran both winter and spring track at BHS, studying science and math. He also plays the electric guitar, works at Clive Olsen's landscape nursery along the Cranberry Highway and won a Student of the Year Award from the Wareham Lodge of Elks.

    • Silverton Elks award   BY SHELDON TRAVER Appeal Tribune February 14  Silverton — On Jan. 28, The Silverton Elks Lodge awarded seven area high school seniors college scholarships. This includes a Kennedy student who has already won $6,800.  Taylor Buchheit from Kennedy High School initially won a $1,000 award as the Silverton Elks most valuable boy. He continued to districts this month, where his qualifications and merits were judged against six other students, and won first place. He received a $1,600 scholarship for that effort. On Feb. 24 he will compete at the Elks Lodge state competition in Roseburg. Because of that, he earned an additional $1,000 per year for college.
    • So, I dutifully attempted many times, on my daughters behalf, to get an application by visiting the lodge, leaving my contact information and phoning numerous times all to no avail. To date, I have not received any call back from the chair of the scholarship committee nor have we received the application in the mail which one lodge member said would be mailed out after we stopped by and left our mailing information. We have not even got the courtesy of a phone call.

    Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge #2815 has presented scholarships to eight Northwest students.

    Five students earned Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Contest scholarships.

    Justin Haley, who attends Ironwood Ridge High School, received a $4,000 scholarship and is competing as a national finalist.

    Pusch Ridge Christian Academy students Victoria Johnston, Jordan Thompson and Morgan Van Stelle each received $1,000 awards for use at the college of their choice, as did Russell Smith from Canyon del Oro High School. All students were selected based upon their academic achievements and leadership skills as well as their participation in community affairs, a release said.

    CHICAGO, May 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Earlier this month, 18 high school seniors from across the country received phone calls that changed their lives.

    The Somerville Elks Lodge Scholarship Committee supports the students of local high schools by providing financial scholarships to outstanding kids, based on their academic achievements and moral character. The administration of each school is charged with selecting the students to receive our awards.

    HUDSON - Hudson Lodge of Elks has awarded a total of $1 million in scholarships in the past eight years, it was announced at the eighth annual Hudson Elks Awards banquet Wednesday, May 20 at Elks Hall, Park Street, Hudson. The Elks presented $60,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors from area high schools that evening.
