Edu 2.0 does it all. It's very similar to Moodle, but much better in my opinion and with way more options. Here is a short list of it's features:
- allows teachers to assign work and send messages to students
- allows teachers to upload videos, documents, audio, etc for assignments
- allows teachers to create surveys, polls, quizzes, etc.
- allows teachers to create interactive rubrics to make grading easy and quick
- allows teachers to keep track of grades
- allows students to keep track of assignments and their grades
- allows students to easily turn in assignment to teachers to be graded
- allows students to get quick feedback on assignments
- allows students to turn in multiple drafts of an assignment
Padlet, once called Wallwisher, is a fun way to display information and get feedback from students. It is also collaborative, so students can participate together as well. You can place text, videos, webpage links, documents, and photos/images. Here is a link for some interesting ways to use padlet in the classroom: http://www.techwithtia.com/padlet.html
An web based interactive mapping and graphing site that visually shows trends amongst countries. You can look at trends dealing with income, CO2 emissions, education, etc.
Shelfari allows student and teachers to share their thoughts on books and connect with other people who have similar book interests. Students can create a virtual bookshelf that they can modify as they read more books. Great for encouraging literacy.
Vimeo is similar to Youtube, but provides a lot education videos. I especially like the Vimeo Channel: Gregs Educational. The author, Frank Gregorio, has created several dramatic science videos that are great for introducing a topic to get student excited. He has prompted me into making a few of my own.
Classroom Architect allows teachers to design their rooms and experiment with different layouts without having to move everything to do it.
Allows the user to convert Youtube videos to many other file types.
Weebly is a free webpage designer. It is easy for students to use, because it has a drag and drop interface. Great for student portfolios.
Wolfgram Alpha is an online search engine that doesn't search the web, but rather uses algorithms and calculations to give you knowledge and answers. It's great for students to check calculations for math and science.
Etherpad is an open source online editor similar to Google Docs. It allows students and teachers to work together on a document. Each user shows up as a different color on the document.
Popplet allows users to collaborate in making graphic organizers or share text and video.
Glogster allows the user to make interactive posters where audio, photos, and videos can be combined to make a multimedia page.
Camtasia is a screen recording software that allows you to capture powerpoint presentations, webpages, videos, photos, audio and more. You can also do some video editing.
Survey Monkey allows you to create custom surveys, collect results quickly, and analyze them easily.
Quizlet allows users to create their own flashcards or study using other flashcards already made. You can share them with friends and with your students. There are also opportunities to play different games with the flashcards.
Prezi is an interactive presentation software. It is a cool alternative to Powerpoint because the presentation are non-linear and there are many templates to chose from.
