Defining our Field-What is Instructional Technology?

AECT defines instructional technology as:

"the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving  performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes  and resources" (Association for Educational Communications and Technology,  2006).

Instructional Technology (IT) Ph.D. Program

The Master of Education degree with a concentration in educational technology  is designed for teachers, administrators and professionals in the field of staff  development and training. Students completing the program will have developed a  broad and deep framework for identifying, implementing, and assessing  educational technology in the teaching and learning process.

Students will have an opportunity to explore future trends in educational  technology, allowing them to continue to expand their skills at the completion  of the program. Students will complete course work in two concentration areas,  giving them extensive experience in designing, developing and assessing  different educational technology applications. Students complete the program  with a practicum experience to apply their skills and knowledge in a school or  workplace setting. ,

Welcome to CCTE!

Communication, Computing and Technology in Education (CCTE) provides a  cluster of degree programs (described more fully in "Program  Specializations") for students who seek to develop leadership capacities in  the use of information and communication technologies in education. It serves  students, staff, and faculty members who share a commitment as educators to use  digital technologies to improve education at all levels. Work through CCTE  should move simultaneously toward two poles of understanding and practice:  toward a comprehensive understanding of the cultural and historical implications  of new technologies for education and life, and toward purposefully selecting  and shaping the uses of new media in educational practice at all levels and  subject areas.

The mission of the Teaching, Learning, and Technology (TLT) degree programs  is to enhance education worldwide through integration of philosophies,  practices, and technologies to advance teaching and learning in diverse  instructional settings. Reflection and a lifelong commitment to learning are  integral to meeting this mission.
