• How does Proof of Disability work if our school or district has an Organizational Agreement with Bookshare where we agree we will not distribute to students who do not have a print disability?

  • As I understood the original Webinar series for the State of Iowa this model was used for enrolling in Bookshare. 1) The district contact person certified during the signup process that the materials would not be distributed to non qualifying students 2) the sponsors (teachers) agreed to the same provisions 3) when the Sponsors (teachers) submitted names to the roster  they are certifying that students who appear on the roster are duly qualified to receive these materials 4) it is implied that supporting written documentation of the qualifying condition(s) can be found in the student's IEP, cummulative record etc.

  • It was my understanding for the Original Webinar series for the state of Iowa that this is the process we would be following. This represents what the districts I have assisted have gone through.
• What is an electronic roster? How do we submit it? Which organizations use this process?
• electronic roster is basically a spreadsheet containing a list of students qualified for Bookshare membership
• serves as Proof of Disability in place of sending in the list of students and their proofs of disability on paper or by fax.

• publicly funded educational institutions are automatically guided to download the electronic roster. When completed, these organizations simply click a button to upload and submit the roster to the membership
• Learning Ally (formerly RFB&D), focus on providing human-narrated audio,
• Bookshare concentrates on digital accessible text based on DAISY format and digital Braille (BRF).
• key difference between Bookshare and Learning Ally is that Bookshare’s memberships and books are completely free to qualified US students, due to a special award from the U.S Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).
• If we have multiple students who need the same book, do we need to download the book for each student separately?
• protect publishers’ interests under the terms of the copyright act, each book file downloaded is digitally fingerprinted with the information about the student who will be receiving the book.
• if you want to distribute the same book to multiple students, you’ll need to download a separate copy of the book for each student.
