Bullying is a large problem. Here are the steps taken to prevent it, how it is all in the works so far, and what may be wrong with the proposals. Many examples of real people who have dealt with bullying, and ideas from both sides as to what should be done with it, the real meaning behind bullying, etc.
R Time, something that teachers can teach students in Elementary school. It is basically twenty minutes of the students talking to each other and asking about how their day went, drawing what they think bullies look like, and talking to each other about some controversial issues. It helps teach manners and cuts down on bullying without really bringing it up. Originated in England before coming to the U.S. This helps my essay as a way for teachers to teach students while still young how to be kind to each other and "remember your R Time lessons."
From obesity to LBGT to other issues, these are different percentages of bullied students from The Science Teacher magazine. This will help my essay by allowing me to use numbers to show how many students are harmed from September 2013.
Reading about how the costs of anti-bullying programs are too high for the funds schools are receiving, I looked up how much some of these programs cost. This source shows how much they are selling for these programs, and in some cases, I see what they mean. This helps my essay with showing the reader what the schools mean when they say these can be very expensive to attain.
Various stories from various authors telling about times that they were bullied growing up. Another example of what bullying can do to people, and how they have gone through it.
This story is about author Frank Peretti's life growing up, about his rare mouth condition he had been dealt with as a child, and how he had been bullied growing up. This one teaches of how the "strong" should protect the "weak," and how adults should stop taking bullying as a "normal" thing and "boys will be boys." It will help my essay by showing another example as to what it is like to be bullied, and what should be done.
This story is about a girl who, before committing suicide, creates tapes explaining why she came to that decision, each side of the tapes dedicated to one person she blames for pushing her decision. It helps my essay because, like the other stories, it shows the extent of the reaction bullying can create. This is the only fictional story in the list, but it is based lightly off of real events, as was said in the back of the book, I believe.
For this essay, I am going to be using some sources from books I have read that will help amplify my essay's credibility. This is a true story about a girl who was bullied so badly, she went home almost every day in tears, she cut her face, she barely talked to anyone... It definitely shows the effects of bullying.
This movie tells a story about Jake Taylor, whose old friend commits suicide after being bullied throughout high school and being abandoned by him freshman year. This will be a good reference for my essay because, though it's fictional, it is based off of true events of every day life and helps people understand what others are going through and just what words and actions can do to people.
This song shows different instances of the youth of America struggling with life, fitting in, and being bullied. In one instance, it seems to make a reference to Columbine by showing a kid who went to school and got shot, his thoughts about what he could have done to change those events. I may use a line from this song into the essay to show, once again, what words may do to students.
This song is about a girl who has gone through so much, but still finds a way to smile and be alive with life's rare happiness. I may use one of the sadder lines in my essay, maybe even show what students treasure the happy moments?
This is a song about two different students who are bullied every day and are suffering psychological damage because of it. This song shows what words and actions can do not only in the physical aspect, but also the emotional aspect, too.
Teachers could also be the problem when it comes to bullying--especially if they bully themselves. This shows a real-life instance where a teacher was in trouble for poor teaching and calling students names. In another country, yes, but it can happen here, too.
If teachers or counselors would listen--really listen, without interruption or questions unless necessary--then maybe those kids that are having family problems will open up and have someone to listen to them. This would be useful in the essay to show that teachers who are there for their students could do more good than those that poke fun at their students.
This article is about the funding that the schools would need to carry out these anti-bullying policies and the training they would need to help the teachers know what to do when bullying happens. The article will help in my essay by showing how much the government is willing to give schools to stop bullying.
Good stories for favorite teachers.
