Alberta Advanced Education has mandated Athabasca University to act as a credit coordinating body. In general, credit courses completed at other accredited degree-granting institutions will be considered for transfer credit to Athabasca University programs on a course-by-course basis.
University transfer courses taken at colleges will generally be considered for transfer credit as though they were university courses. Athabasca University responds to all evaluations individually. The relevant credential program regulations are dependent on the year the college program and/or individual courses were completed, the course selection within the diploma, and other variables. Individual credit may vary.
While transfer credit for individual field placement, professional seminars, work experience, life experience, or elementary skills is not normally granted, students should contact the Centre for Learning Accreditation for information. The office will help you determine which learning experiences may be evaluated for credit towards a program.
A minimum grade of "C" or equivalent is required for "on admission" transfer credit to be awarded. Current Dalhousie/King's students who wish to take courses at other institutions must obtain approval in advance on a letter of permission form available online at www.registrar.dal.ca/forms. Please see regulation 7 in the undergraduate calendar.
UBC will not grant a degree for studies that represent less than the equivalent of two regular Winter Sessions (60 credits). In general, transfer credit is limited to the first two years (60 credits) of a degree program, wherever those credits were completed.
Credit at a more senior level is possible if prior written permission has been obtained from the Dean. A student will not be granted transfer credit for more than 12 credits of upper-level course work. Although transfer credit allowed by the Dean may be included in the required 48 credits numbered 300 or above, a B.Sc. program must include a minimum of 30 credits of upper-level UBC Science courses specified by the program.
