PSSA at Study Island. Specializing in PSSA tests, PSSA practice tests, Pennsylvania PSSA tests and Pennsylvania PSSA. NEED LICENSES\n\n"Study Island is completely Web-based. Students can access Study Island and learn at their own pace. There is no software to download or install; all you need is an Internet connection. Not only are there several thousand questions in the Study Island program, but each question constantly changes. The answers to the multiple-choice questions rotate positions, and the numbers in the math questions are chosen randomly, resulting in a deeper understanding of the concepts, as opposed to memorization of the answers. This deeper understanding of the concepts enables students to feel prepared when taking the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA). Teachers can customize printable worksheets when a paper/pencil option is more appropriate for the learner" (Study Island, 2009). Although I have only two weeks remaining in the school year, I will begin piloting Study Island this week. I am interested to see how the students will react to a self-guided activity. For the most part, students will be able to choose the subject matter and activities that they will be working on. However, I do have the opportunity to provide assignments to guide my students. I hope to use this summer to create different assignments and become more familiar with this program. Currently this program is available for Math and English, and focuses on elementary to middle school students. You must purchase individual licenses for each student to use Study Island.\n\n \n\nStudy Island. (2009). In Features. I have used First In Math in my classroom for the past two years. It is based off of the math game 24. In my school district First in Math is also provided in the elementary schools. From my experience I have noticed that the reaction to it varies greatly. Some students like it so much they will play it at home, while others quickly become bored with the site. As a teacher, I can monitor the activities they have completed; however, there is no way for me to communicate with them as to what activities they should work on. The games are also very easy to guess at. Many students are able to complete activities solely by guessing. First In Math works primarily with middle school children and younger. Also, you must purchase individual licenses for each student.
