Many PBS shows can be streamed from here. A few examples: NOVA'a Ocean 'Tipping Point', NOVA's 'Extreme Ice', NOW on PBS'a 'On Thin Ice' Wide Angle's 'Burning Season', Nature's 'Under Antarctic Ice,' and many more. Many videos are time 'chunked' making them more amenable for classroom use. Once a video is selected, mouse over the screen to show the full screen and other options.
Learn about climate change in this Google Earth introductory tour narrated by Al Gore, the first in a series of Google Earth tours leading up to the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen in December. For more climate change tours, visit http://www.google.com/cop15
"Leading climate change experts discuss one of hte most complex scienctific puzzles ever to confront humankind." Excellent video, partitioned into sections.
"NASA scientist Thorsten Markus shares his expertise on polar ice in a lecture at the Library of Congress. In his lecture, Markus summarizes recent observations and findings-together with pictures from Arctic and Antarctic research campaigns-and puts those results into the bigger climate-system picture. He focuses on recent changes in the Arctic and in Antarctica. Markus explains why the two hemispheres react differently to climate change, and concludes his lecture by discussing current and future efforts to address the uncertainties and contradictions of the ice conditions."
"NBC Learn, the educational arm of NBC News, has teamed up with the National Science Foundation (NSF) to produce Science of the Olympic Winter Games, a 16-part video series that explores the science behind individual Olympic events, including Downhill and Aerial Skiing, Speed Skating and Figure Skating, Curling and Hockey, and Ski Jumping, Bobsledding and Snowboarding."
"How to take an albedo measurement of sea ice with Don Perovich. From University of Alaska Fairbanks. Part 1 of 2. "
"Albedo Measurements explained on the sea ice by Don Perovich. Part 2 of 2. University of Alaska Fairbanks. "
"Sea Ice Core Sampling methodology in Barrow, Alaska. Part one of two. "
At TED2010, Bill Gates unveils his vision for the world's energy future, describing the need for "miracles" to avoid planetary catastrophe and explaining why he's backing a dramatically different type of nuclear reactor. The necessary goal? Zero carbon emissions globally by 2050
This video is far less radical that the name suggests. A little longer than 10 minutes, it provides an excellent, albeit simplified, calm summary of the science. It does not ignore the cyclic nature of climate change yet it does put the human factor in place nicely. Be sure to watch all they way through the credits. The video is downloadable, and has a pdf page of the script with links to quality sites.
"In a remarkable union of science and art, landscape painter Diane Burko shows how the planet's glaciers have changed form over the last century in her latest exhibit "Politics of Snow."
To tell the story, Burko tracked down glaciologists from the US Geological Survey's National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and others. She then painted a series of photos for each mountain based on historic and present day photographs. Her collection demonstrates the changing face of glacial mountains across the world, including the Matterhorn in the Alps and Grinnell Glacier in Montana's Glacier National Park." The Scientist
"Responding to the challenge of climate change requires understanding more about climate variability and the changes expected. Jim Kinter, director of the Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies (COLA), explains how scientists there are using supercomputers to learn more about the interactions among earth's land, air and sea."

Weather Underground is the first Internet weather service, in existence since 1991. "Weather Underground is committed to delivering the most reliable, accurate weather information possible. Our state-of-the-art technology monitors conditions and forecasts for locations across the world, so you'll always find the weather information that you need."
Scientist Anthony Leiserowitz, director of the Yale Project on Climate Change Communication, joins Bill to describe his efforts to do what even Hurricane Sandy couldn’t — galvanize communities over what’s arguably the greatest single threat facing humanity. Leiserowitz, who specializes in the psychology of risk perception, knows better than anyone if people are willing to change their behavior to make a difference.
The [US} Interior Department on Tuesday opened an urgent review of Arctic offshore drilling operations after a series of blunders and accidents involving Shell Oil’s drill ships and support equipment, culminating in the grounding of one of its drilling vessels last week off the coast of Alaska.
"A new assessment that gauges the views of leading ice sheet experts finds that scientists think global sea level rise during this century may be far more significant than previously thought, possibly eclipsing 1 meter, or 3.3 feet, by 2100. Such a sharp rise in sea level would inundate heavily populated coastal areas around the world, potentially forcing the relocation of 187 million people, the study said."
This is an animation of sea ice volume change over the past 3 decades. It uses PIOMAS modeling data (Pan-Arctic Ice Ocean Modeling and Assimilation System) from the University of Washington. Data is very hard to understand and visualize - these folks did a nice job making it more accessible through this animation.
"Time history of atmospheric carbon dioxide from 800,000 years ago until January, 2012."
excellent animation
