"Adding DRM to the HTML standard will have far-reaching effects that are incompatible with the W3C's most important policies, and with Berners-Lee's deeply held principles.

For example, the W3C has led the world's standards bodies in insisting that its standards are not encumbered by patents. Where W3C members hold patents that cover some part of a standard, they must promise to license them to all comers without burdensome conditions. But DRM requires patents or other licensable elements, for the sole purpose of adding burdensome conditions to browsers.

The first of these conditions – "robustness" against end-user modification – is a blanket ban on all free/open source software (free/open source software, by definition, can be modified by its users). That means that the two most popular browser technologies on the Web – WebKit (used in Chrome and Safari) and Gecko (used in Firefox and related browsers) – would be legally prohibited from implementing whatever "standard" the W3C emerges."

Web Sockets give you full-duplex functionality with a single connection between the client and server. Full-duplex allows messages to be passed in both directions at the same time. HTTP is half-duplex where data can only be passed in one direction at a time. For example, the server cannot respond to a client request until it has finished receiving the request.
A Web Socket connection can also remain open for the life of the session.The other nice thing about Web Sockets is that they operate over port 80/443 so there are no firewall or proxy issues to contend with

Opera has just released a public build with support for WebSockets. WebSockets will be supported in the final release of Opera 10.70. WebSockets provide a way to communicate between script in a Web page and the server in full-duplex mode with low latency.

The goal of a "responsive images" solution is to deliver images optimized for the end user's context, rather than serving the largest potentially necessary image to everyone. Unfortunately, this hasn't been quite so simple in practice as it is in theory.The earliest discussion of responsive images came about-predictably enough-framed in the context of responsive web design.The bottom line is that we can't hack our way out of this one. The problem remains clear, however, and it needs to be solved-but we can't do it with the technologies at our disposal now. We need something new.Those of us working on the issue formed the Responsive Images Community Group (RICG) to facilitate conversations with standards bodies and browser representatives.Two proposals are:
