  • Step 1- Pick a big idea to write about (topic or theme)

Step 2- Write in short lines, kind of like a poem

Step 3- Try to make some of it rhyme

Step 4- It can be as long or short as you want

*Remember most songs take 1 to 3 minutes to sing if you repeat parts

Step 5- It should be easy to sing (So, sing it back to make sure that it is!)

Step 6- The amount of syllables in each line should follow a pattern:

*Example: Line one- 5 syllables (A)

    Line two- 4 syllables (B)

Line three- 5 syllables again (A)

Line four- 4 syllables again (B)

    * Labeling each line by letters (A and B) can help you see which lines match each other!

Step 7- Choose a tune or beat that you already know or you can invent your own

Hint: A song is very close to a poem but it repeats more and is easy to sing!
