Trends, 2yr plan for Stanford OL ed. That they are experimenting more than what they are actually doing -- doesn't disclose much.
But the choice to appt a CS guy as provost of OL Ed prioritizes the tech over the pedagogical or other conceptual innovation.
Short seminars (4-5 wks, 10 hrs/week) for $75-100. Skills-based. Some f2f experiences ("Institutes") T/W/Th 9-4 also $75-100. Skills-building exercises purport to be directly applicable into the classroom.
Compare this to the Stanford announcement of John Mitchell as Provost of OL Ed. Two ends of the "training" or OL edu continuum.
Which does not even factor in Coursera, iTunes U., etc.
Will need a different spatial model than "continuum." It's not a line. A 3D polygon.
MOOCs have made the basic course content free.
So what are we selling in elite, residential higher ed? Process.
Kevin sent this to me after Twitter sentiment workshop at AIL 12 Feb 13.
Possible Innovator in Residence.
