Hello Professors,
I hope this 2012-2013 Academic Year finds you and yours well. :D I graduated CSN in May of 2011 and have yet to secure suitable employment; something symbiotic and worthy of my skills and talents. As we know from newscasts and also shown below, the unemployment numbers for the state of Nevada are deplorable! "
"Among the 49 metropolitan areas with a Census 2000 population of 1 million or more, the
highest unemployment rates in August were registered in Las Vegas-Paradise, Nev...." (bls.gov)

Given my affinity for Dynamic Web applications, Communications and Leadership, I came upon the idea of self-employed independently contracted Virtual Assistant. I know I have many of the skills necessary to perform adequately in the capacity of an online Virtual Assistant, but I don't have the experience in client base or even a Certification touting my expertise in these areas. I know also that I am lacking in certain skills, specifically emergent technologies. I am also in need of refreshers; Microsoft Office and Adobe. "More sophisticated methods of production demand a constantly rising standard of education" (Enzensberger, The Industrialization of the Mind).
The core of this Professional Development Course in Virtual Assistance would consist of Information Technologies, Dynamic Web applications and Communications. "What the media [and social networking] are, in truth, are "mind-making" industries..." (Enzensberger). The small business owner or busy executive does not have the time to tweet out, in continuous broadcast, his or her upcoming meeting or seminar, schedule the online or brick and mortar venue, send out the invitations and information, do the necessary research to assemble a fantastic presentation and then follow up with the attendees requesting feedback, delivering transcripts, projections and collaborative interactions or just a plain old fashioned, hand written "Thank You."
But the Certified Virtual Assistant can do all of the above and more!
I am still in the research stage of this; Professional Development Certification Course in Virtual Assistance. Some online certifications, boasting prices of $69.99, though outlining the necessary facets, strike me as 'not quite Kosher.' Certification from an accredited institution of Higher Learning such as CSN would carry more klout and be of higher value because of you, the Professors of CSN and your dedicated teaching of your specialties. Also, "College of Southern Nevada Professors develop course that puts Nevadans to work in the International Arena" would be a handsome addition to your CV. (O.K. dreaming a little there, but you never know) ; D
I know how hard you work and how very busy you are. Any input: whether or not you think this is a good idea, if you would be willing to add your expertise or dedicate a class towards the Professional Development Certification Course in Virtual Assistance, or any other feedback you might have would be greatly appreciated.
