"This is a great staffing niche. There are simply not enough Project Managers in this field." -Scott
Jackson Healthcare, an Atlanta-based organization of staffing and technology companies, has announced the creation of the new health IT staffing firm, HealthIT Project Managers.
According to Jackson, the new company focuses exclusively on supporting CIOs with their IT projects rather than offering traditional consulting engagements. The company’s primary interest is in projects that tend to get delayed or never started due to trans formative engagements like electronic medical records (EMR).
"The Days of Stand Alone Project management Software are numbered....I hope"-Scott
"Just talked with my students today about project selection. Cost and quality can have little meaning in markets where you are not on stable ground. Having ways to avoid large upfront capital costs can also be more important when you don't think that you will have 10 years to get your ROI." -Scott
"Sometimes letting go of your well thought out project plan is the best and hardest thing that you can do as a PM"
-Scott
"Trust is so much more important that any other part of a relationship between the PM and stakeholders (or team members). You can tolerate mistakes, but you can tolerate having someone you don't trust as a PM."-Scott
"Looks like a great conference again this year. If you are interested in getting together a presentation about teaching project management and want to collaborate, let me know." -Scott
The upcoming PMI Research and Education Conference will take place on 15-18 July 2012 in Limerick, Ireland. The conference is a premier international project management research and education event. It brings together the audience of scholars, senior practitioners and students of project management and allied disciplines. The event provides an opportunity for attendees to present and discuss new project management research findings and teaching methods.
If you are interested in presenting at this conference, you may submit your proposal now. The call for conference submissions is now open. It will close on 1 December 2011. The conference registration will open in February 2012.
"It is interested how implementing a PMO is one of the best thing that any projectized organization can do to increase quality of its processes. The Baldridge award, of the Missouri Quality Award, criteria lead themselves well to use of a project management office." -Scott
"While Second Life might be one way to bring together virtual teams, it also has a lot of transactional friction--having to create an avatar, meet in a space, etc.--and lots of opportunities for distraction. Videoconferencing with your virtual team (via a desktop client like Movi or Mirial) would be much easier, and would allow for more productive information sharing--visual, verbal, and data." -Scott
"It used to be that project managers were much more "process" oriented, tracking data, reporting on project performance and reporting to stake holders. But now project managers are often being given the authority to make significant decisions about project direction, especially in extreme or agile project management where the outcome or end result is not always known. Making leadership more and more important for successful project managers."-Scott
The survey of a global panel of consultants and senior executives run by ESI International showed that “Leadership skills will be the PM’s critical success factor”. The study suggests that leadership skills, such as critical thinking, crucial communication and organisational change management will be strategically imperative project management competencies to master for the contemporary business environment.
The survey reveals a second major trend for this year – there is a war on for project management talent and visionary retention strategies and skills development will play a bigger role in curbing poaching.
“Despite local businesses feeling positive about this year as the recession is largely considered to be over, things have changed, and the challenges above exist and need to be addressed,” says Dennis Comninos, who directs the Strategic Project Management short course at the UCT Graduate School of Business in March. The course develops high level project management skills in SA.
"For all the talk of new methods of project management, Traditional Project Management is how anything of major consequence gets done." -Scott
SAIT Polytechnic in Calgary is launching a four-year bachelor of science in construction project management in September.
"Construction project management is a high-demand field that includes the design, tender and management of facilities; the budgeting, planning and scheduling of project activities; and the safe and efficient management of employees, contractors, equipment and materials," says Larry Rosia, dean of SAIT's School of Construction.
