Jessica Otey's List: Digital Citizenship (Goal 5.a)

This site offers a webquest about internet safety. I could require the students to go through this webquest before using technology in the classroom. This webquest would not only help them learn some of the safety rules, but also allow them to educate others by making posters, letters, etc.

This site gives five rules for children to follow while on the internet. Most of these rules deal with giving out information online. Before using the internet in my classroom, I could pull up this website for the whole class to go over. We could then discuss the rules and why they are important.

This website has a really good animated video for students. It describes internet safety rules in a way that students could identify with. I could use this video in the beginning of the year to teach students the importance of following internet safety rules.

This site offers games for kids that help teach them about internet safety. This could be a really fun and memorable way for students to learn safe internet practices. I could use this site as a center when we are discussing internet safety rules.

This is a search engine for kids. It allows them to browse the internet in a safe manner. I could introduce this search engine to my students and explain how this website helps us follow the internet safety rules. We will discuss why this search engine might me safer than other search engines. This site will be bookmarked for students to use when they are doing research.
