• A blog is a very viable means of showcasing your product/service, knowledge, thoughts, industry news and ideas. Blogs also have proven to rank higher in search engine results to queries as the content is fresh, relevant and also favor the long tail searches.
• As a blogger, identifying goals is Step 1. Your intention of the blog, what are you trying to achieve? The responses vary but the goal of any business blogger is to monetize. Plain and simple. You are putting your company out there to share what you know and how you can take this knowledge and help others. While monetization is the main underlying goal, there are subsets that get deeper into your purpose and what you want to accomplish by leading to monetization. This walks the fine line on tetering with objectives but objectives are more the how where goals are the why.

• With proper application, safeguards, moderation, and a focus on Internet safety, the use of online collaboration tools such as social networking, blogging and wikis have been shown to improve student learning, increase student engagement in classes, improve writing, and improve the motivation students have towards their classes and writing when presenting their information to a larger “audience.”

• The Pirate Party’s stance is that “freely sharing culture and  knowledge is a normal social behavior” and therefore all  non-commercial distribution of intellectual property must be  decriminalized. 
  
    The Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Directive (IPRED),  which came in 2009 as an amendment to the Swedish Copyright Act  of 1960, has made it easier for copyright holders to get their  hands on the personal details of suspected illicit file sharers. 
  
    The controversial legislation, which carries huge fines and even  imprisonment for perpetrators, went ahead despite 48 per cent of  the population speaking out against it, a Sifo poll revealed.

• But along with revolutionizing personal (and political) relationships, the sharing of content on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram — now a Facebook property — is steadily increasing pressures on a quite different regime, namely copyright law.
• In most of the world today, ownership of one’s creation is automatic, and considered to be an individual’s legally protected intellectual property. That’s enshrined in the Berne Convention and other international treaties, which abolished registration as a formal predicate for copyright interests (although not for judicial enforcement).
• Another aspect is whether a user posting UGC to social media sites actually has a protectable copyright interest in his or her content. As Social Media Today summarized, “when it comes to image sharing on social media, we enter a bit of a grey area over who owns what.”  An early New York case involving Haitian earthquake photos posted to Twitter, Agence France Presse v. Morel, cluttered the landscape by focusing on the Twitter TOS to find that for-profit republication of the photos by AFP was not permissible. But TOS are a contract, and it is long-standing law that absent unusual circumstances, contract rights do not extend to so-called “third-party beneficiaries.”

• A database is a collection of information in electronic format organized in a logical fashion.

• Many of the actions you make during the day become data for organizations to use for their own profit and learning. Using an automated teller machine, filling out a form for a driver's license, ordering a book on the Internet, booking a flight on an airline - all become digitized data to be sorted, managed, and used by others. In each of these cases, someone at some time has decided how the data from these users will be received, stored, processed, and made available to others.
• Ultimately, the data cannot be understood until it is analyzed. This can be accomplished by calculating the average score for each nurse, the average score for all the nurses at the hospital, the average score for the nurses in each department, and so on. As the manager begins to process and analyze the data, it eventually begins to tell a story. Hopefully, the story will increase understanding in a way that enables the manager to improve the level of satisfaction of the group of employees.

• Moral literacy involves three basic components: ethics sensitivity; ethical reasoning skills; and moral imagination. It is the contention of the author that though math and reading literacy is highly valued by the American educational system, moral literacy is extremely undervalued and under-developed.

• One example of this concerns his discussion of pacifism. What does a rational moralist have to tell us about the merits, morally speaking, of pacifism? “Absolute pacifism”, McGinn tell us “is really not a tenable moral position” (p.43). But what reasons can a rational moralist provide in support of this judgement? What McGinn does is to describe an imaginary case in which some great evil can be averted only if you kill someone – in other words, he envisages precisely the sort of situation in which clear-headed pacifists have always said it is wrong to kill – and he simply says that in such cases it is right (“clearly right” are his actual words) to kill. Not much argument there – simply counter-assertion.

• Plagiarism occurs when someone uses words, ideas, or work products attributable to another identifiable person or source without attributing the work to the source from which it was obtained in a situation in which there is a legitimate expectation of original authorship, in order to obtain some benefit, credit, or gain which need not be monetary.

• By definition, collaboration means "to work jointly with others or together especially in an intellectual endeavour," ref Merriam Webster. In the world of technology and the internet, "modern communication" collaboration really means working together to reach a common goal. Collaboration vs. True Online Collaboration though, is the question. Collaboration is a very broad term. True online collaboration is when we can utilize software to truly work with others as if they were here in the room with us - geography is no longer a barrier.

• Because of its prevalence in the consumer market, the most well-known product on the market today is Dropbox. But over the past two years, many offerings targeted at businesses have arrived on the market. Those targeted at business use cases differ from consumer products in that they have a central administration console to provision, manage and monitor individual user accounts, as well as centralized billing and often a shared storage quota. At the same time, traditional consumer-focused vendors, like Dropbox and SugarSync, now have offerings built for business use. However, enterprises are still hesitant to adopt these solutions, primarily because of security concerns.
