  • Statement #3: Internet Collaboration and Social Networking

"Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and other social networking sites have taken the lead in becoming frugal professional collaborative extensions in peoples lives regulating their musical, communicative, and professional experiences via web."

  • Why? and How is this relevant?

Facebook and websites alike have taken over peoples social lives and musical experiences and are now entering their academic and professional realms. "… 69% of users want to interact with colleagues they don't know" - Social Networking and Collaboration Platforms Lead the News. With websites like Linkedin and Facebook users are now communicating through not only their social lives but through work and study as well. "Facebook and Twitter, got their start providing a "fun" experience for their users…" says Terrance Huwe in his article "Twitter and Facebook Opens The Door to Collaboration". Well the fun is over. You can no longer post innapropraite articles of yourself due to the fact that work industries are continuing to use Facebook in a professional manner and at the workplace. Its a form of advertising and professional social communication. Stars like Justin Timberlake take over the music scene in Myspace in "MYSPACE REMIXED." to use it for advertising in a professional musical manner. Now these days its less about your friends and more about who your working with. "Frugal is the new black" says Paula Hane, these free websites are taking over the digital community and providing the next extensions of peoples social lives.

  • Statement #4: Internet Collaboration and Education

"WIth integrative online courses on the Internet, collaboration is more possible than ever and is reshaping the future of education."

  • Why? and How is this relevant?

" We are entering an age of collaboration." states Chris Yeh in his article "Collaborate or Die: The Future of Education". We are not only entering an age of collaboration but an age of information and a new age of literacy as well. Education is taking the center spot in Internet collaboration using its utitilies and resources to globally educate this and the next upcoming generations. Not only is collaboration possible but it is reshaping the way we learn and think forever. Institutions such as DePaul University are using online courses to encourage collaboration outside the classroom and via web. "Collaboration, Internet Style" talks of how faculty are now able to tune into staff meetings and students are video and audio streaming from all sorts of places both for leisure and educational purposes. "… 1 percent of the nation's 50 million school-age children are learning at home." - "The Dawn of online home schooling". Textbooks are becoming obsolete and the pupil-teacher relationship is digitally changing. New integrative online courses and resources alike are taking education to the next level on a collaborative premise.

  • Statement #5: Internet Collaboration and Music

"Through the Internet, Musicians have come to collaborate with one another in order to produce a distribution medium and global collaborated ratings for all genres of music."

  • Why? and How is this relevant?

Musicians are now collaborating all over the world. From the EDM group "Cazzette" to Oberlin College's music students. Music students and groups are able to put their work out their like never before. The billboards have become awestruck on how ratings and the distribution medium is now being massively influenced by commoners via web. Sites like Spotify and Pandora are taking over music's distribution and rating system along with iTunes and Amazon. "Skrillex" even "released his first EP album free" just to get the popularity through the Internet. Collaboration via web is not only frugal but efficient for musicians who want to put their music out there. Oberlin's students have no problem taking their compositions to the next level by communicating via web. The music industry is changing as a new technological golden era approaches, it is an end to a new means.
