Famous Graphic Design Pieces
Description of Graphic Design as defined by the The American Institue of Graphic Design.
J. Howard Miller
1946-Events in history sparked inspiration and purpose for many posters and Graphic Design works. Some of these pieces were used for motivation to get the country to follow suit, others were used for propaganda. It is 1942, WWII and the men of the country are in the fight against the Axis of Evil, and have been called to duty. Back on the home front the workforce is faced with a shortage of factory workers and tradesman to build planes, vehicles, and equipment for the troops. Women of the time needed to step into those roles. One of the most famous pieces during this period was the "We Can Do IT" poster, designed by J Howard Miller feature a version of "Rosie the Riveter". Her strong, determined dimenor, rolling up her sleeves and ready to get to work, inspired and motivated a nation of women who did there part and stepped up in to the role that was earlier held by men.
Sheperd Fairey
Whether you voted for him or not, the 2008 Presidential election was a milestone in American history and a turning point for change in this country. The first African American President took office and his campaign poster designed by Obey artist/creator Shepherd Fairey would be go down in history as the most recognized and famous campaign posters in history. Aside forwhat the poster evoked, and that was the dull , almost calming colors for the American people to look at and simply associate the candidate and newly appointed Barrack Obama as someone who was going to turn this country off of the road it had been going down for the previous eight years. Feirey is noted as one of most reputable Graphic Artists of his time and has sparked a movement with his Obey clothing line that it is more that just a cool logo, it is a thought provoking brand that challenges even evokes the view to question all that is around them.

As an Electrician and Engineer working on on boats large and small by day, I often stop to admire things that most of my counterparts pay absolutely no attention to. That is the amazing logos of of the manufacturer's whos equipment and products I use and maintain. The simple use of colors, bold typefaces and in the spirit of minimal manufacturing and engineering logos, I have come to discover the magnificent Graphic Designers behind some of these iconic logos in the mechanical and electrical trades. Paul Rand is one of them, who's logos consist of Cummins, a large diesel engine manufacturer, as well as Yale and Westinghouse Electric to name a few. He is also the designer of a little TV station called ABC's logo, and UPS as well.

Lindon Leading
noted by rolling stone magazine as the 8th best logo over the past 35 years
The FEDEX, designed by Lindon Leader logo is a complete reduex of the older dated logo and is by far much more complex that just some bold clors and text. In fact a lot of research went into the this logo. In Mathew May's The Laws of Subtraction. He highlights the genieous behind this award winning logo is whats not there that makes it so effective, and how it subconsciously plays on the mind portraying a brand and logog that repressents a speedy parcial company indicative of the negativley spaced arrow comprised of the E and X being placed together.
