De Vaca
Website provides background for the Coronado Expedition, and also basic understandings of the initial encounters between Natives and Europeans.
Great site that includes primary sources, info about de Vaca himself, and a series of images. Good for student use or for teacher use. Lots of items in pdf format.
Provides maps, primary and secondary sources, and links to other documents.
Great short intro to Cabeza de Vaca's journey. Would work well as an activator to this part of the unit.
Creation Myths
Interactive display of a variety of creation myths. This site would be great for students to be introduced to the concept of creation myths. They could easily look for common themes, the purpose of the creation myth, etc.
Elements of Creation Myths as created by a high school student. Great straight forward student resource.
Great commentaries on creation myths from various Native American tribes. Good point of discussion as to why these are important, and what they mean to the people who heard them. Also good departure point from student disbelief after reading initial creation myths.
Great for use by students or by the instructor to gather other examples of creation myths throughout history and compare them to those of Native American authors.
Native American Literature
Good for comparison and extension upon those in our textbook anthology.
Additional Native American poems for students to use, analyze, and compare.
Great source of both primary sources written by Native American authors, and critical viewpoints on their literature.
Good Overview for students. Could be used to create a learning map for this unit.

Seems similar to standard plot structure.
Native American Culture & History
Access to a variety of images and narratives chronicling the Native American experience (Issued 1907-1930)
Entry Point for access to teacher resources for Native American study.
This would be great, in particular the portions on our views of Native Americans.
Native American Immigration: Specifically Removal from their land.
Large repository of cultural links including education, food, literature, languages, and history.
Lesson Plans
This site has several lesson plans for teaching Native American history/literature. Most are for elementary level, but the guiding questions and some extension activities are still relevant.
A few great lesson plans that are geared toward the high school level.
Two more good lesson plans for high school level. Although they aren't specific to the time period we study, they could help to engage students and show them how initial impressions of Native Americans led to later historical developments.
