• Earlier this week a report by US intelligence community concluded that the   country was being targeted by a massive cyber-espionage campaign

• Hold down the Ctrl key when starting Word, and click Yes to the safe mode prompt
• Locate the Normal.dotm template and rename it to OldNormal.dotm and then try.  If that does not fix the problem, you can delete the new Normal.dotm that will have been created and go back to your original one by renaming it if it contained customization  that you want to be able to make use of, and then go to the Developer tab and then click on Document Template and uncheck all of the items that appear in the Global templates and add-ins section of the dialog and see if that makes any difference.  If that  fixes it, you can try checking them one at a time to locate the one that is causing the problem.
• Go to the Word Startup Folder (c:\users\[user name]\App Data\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\Startup and create a folder named Store under it and then move all of the files from the Startup folder into the Store folder and then re-start Word.  If the problem has  gone away, then you can try moving the files back into the Startup folder, one at a time and in that way, you should be able to identify the one that is causing the problem
