Pedagogy- problem based learning ( also known as project based learning).
The WebQuest utilises web 2.0 technology to provide students with multifaceted learning experience. It is very hands on and dynamic, and if the topic is researcher and prepared well, the result will be deeper learning.
Relevance for my project: is the care that is required for content selection and activities. Though not quite the same as a LMS, I feel a well designed Webquest demonstrates well the notion of 'constructive alignment' whereby goals, are supported by both content and activities and tasks.
Ken Robinson discusses how the (US) and other school systems create an atmosphere of straight-jacket learning for students (specifically children in this talk), and the resulting ramifications.
I.e: extinguishing of creativity; curiosity and diversity of ability.
Also touches on the deprofessionalisation of teachers from facilitators of learning to 'compliance' managers.
Defines 'education' as the accrual of knowledge via teaching, experiences and study.
Tips on how to design a virtual classroom (synchronous mode).
We need a shift in thinking from 'design a course' to teach this really important stuff' to 'design an experience' so that people can actually be able to work out how to access the info THEY need to solve the 'problem'.
Move away from 'information heavy' - and quiz training to ' experiential - conceptual - I know this - and to get more I need only go 'there'.
Summary of how to tap-in to neuroscience for teaching and learning.
Very important in programme design - and essential for e -Learning
Difference between Wikipedia, Wikimedia and M.ediaWiki.MediaWiki is free server-based software which is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It's designed to be run on a large server farm for a website that gets millions of hits per day.
MediaWiki is an extremely powerful, scalable software and a feature-rich wiki implementation that uses PHP to process and display data stored in a database, such as MySQL.
Pages use MediaWiki's wikitext format, so that users without knowledge of XHTML or CSS can edit them easily.
When a user submits an edit to a page, MediaWiki writes it to the database, but without deleting the previous versions of the page, thus allowing easy reverts in case of vandalism or spamming. MediaWiki can manage image and multimedia files, too, which are stored in the filesystem. For large wikis with lots of users, MediaWiki supports caching and can be easily coupled with Squid proxy server software.

Encourage student-centered learning. Even young students can build web pages, embed images & video, and post documents.
Provide access to information sources, book lists, and links to good articles. Have the resources stored for future use.
Host and share information between students, faculty and staff. Encourage staff development and shared resources across schools.
Make distance learning more interactive and collaborative, support research teams, and improve inter-departmental coordination.
Bring your classroom into the 21st century by encouraging critical thinking and real world communication. With an online workspace, students are engaged outside the classroom, parents remain involved, and school resources are always accessible.Basic classroom workspaces are free; premium workspaces start at just $99/year.dddddddd
Introduction
Wikispaces Classroom is a social writing platform for education. We make it incredibly easy to create a classroom workspace where you and your students can communicate and work on writing projects alone or in teams. Rich assessment tools give you the power to measure student contribution and engagement in real-time. Wikispaces Classroom works great on modern browsers, tablets, and phones.
Wikispaces Classroom is free for teachers and students. We have over 10 million registered teachers and students on the platform.
In this lesson our instructor talks about the world wide web and an introduction to HTML. He first talks about looking at source code and HTML 5. He finishes by showing an example of how to create your first web page and what you need to do so.
I love coding! I can't actually DO it yet, but I want to learn it. I think that being ablt to code to tailor your design, would add a very authentic dimension to e learning.
design.
Relevance for my e Technology is the fact that I can expand my 'range' with some coding skill. ( Maybe not this time, but in the future).
HTML is the lingua franca of the web. It’s a simple, universal mark-up language that allows web publishers to create complex pages of text and images that can be viewed by anyone else on the web, regardless of what kind of computer or browser is being used. Despite what you might have heard, you don’t …
Resource Type: Resource development: create an animated avatar
Cost: Free or paid (costs vary depending on account selected).
Voki allows the creation of animated avatars - which you can design around a basic model.
The Voki's are able to speak nominated text. You can type in the text that you want, select the accent and voice type (male or female) and then upload the completed Voki to your blog. Voice recording is also available, but requires flash player.
Relevance: I have used Voki in my class to add some novelty to listening tasks; it gives students and opportunity to hear voices other than mine!
I have also used Voki characters to flesh out information in a recent instruction video. This programme is a lot of fun to use, and can enliven any learning.
