• “The radical homosexual movement seeks societal normalization of their sexual activity. . . . They must respect the right of millions in society to refuse to normalize their behavior.”
• “Either faith in Christ can cleanse all people of their sin, or none, but not some,” he writes. “The truth of Christ’s death, resurrection, and power over sin is absolute. . . . What we believe about it does not determine its truthfulness.”
• Perry has no use for those who “want to recognize Jesus as a good teacher, but nothing more.” Of those non-Christians, Perry asks, “why call him good if he has lied about his claims of deity and misled two millennia of followers?”

  • Jesus was not a crusader, and he was much more circumspect -- perhaps even doubtful -- about his identity as the Messiah. In you are not sure about that, read Matthew chapter 10, where he commissions the disciples to preach to "the lost sheep of Israel" -- and not the gentiles or the Samaritans. Or Jesus's frequent admonition to those he had cured NOT to go running off telling others that "the messiah" had healed them. His principal disciple Peter was admonished not to tell anyone he was the messiah, after Peter's passionate confession of his feeling that Jesus was. But Rick Perry is not interested in these things. He is just another sleazy, snake-oil dealing politician, who takes money from rich contributors to do things that they want, however that may impact the lives of ordinary working Texans. Jesus would have turned him out of the temple in Jerusalem with the money-changers.
• Among the things Perry “deems” harmful: universities (students “have been taught that corporations are evil, religion is the opiate of the masses, and morality is relative”); human rights commissions (“often nothing more than a front for attacking institutions that teach traditional values”); and evolution (he says “the weight of evidence” supports intelligent design). Perry polishes the old “war on Christmas” chestnut and finds a way to cast Mitt Romney (now his rival for the nomination) as a defender of gay scoutmasters.

  • Am laughing out loud as I read this ... Imagine Rick Perry one day in the White House, touting his cred as an "education president." I wouldn't put it past him. In fact, if he is elected, I predict here and now that he will do something very close to this -- flaming hypocrite he obviously is!! The last ex-Texas guv "education president" gave us "no child left behind," a miserable failure based on catchy election-year bromides pitched to ignorant voters amid seasonings of racism and homophobia. And what is science policy going to be like with a president for whom the "weight of evidence" supports creationist theories of human origins. And Mitt Romney? For a moment I flashed on Romney as a gay scoutmaster, in uniform and pith helmet, gazing at the boys in his troop.
