Build a Meerkat is a lesson designed for students in pre-K through grade 4. In the lesson students create a meerkat puppet using the templates and directions provided by National Geographic. The point of the lesson is to get students to analyze how a meerkat's body is adapted to its habitat.
About many ocean habitats and the adaptions fish have to survive there. Design your fish to thrive in the habitat.
One way scientists learn about animals is by studying their poop -- also called “scat”
or "dung." Let’s look at some animal poop and see if you can guess who left it behind.
From the Minnesota Zoo
There are seven life processes that tell us that animals are alive. To help us remember them we have found a friend to remind you - Mrs Nerg. Although her name sounds a bit strange, the letters in it stand for the life processes - movement, reproduction, sensitivity, nutrition, excretion, respiration and growth.

"In the Grassland, Woodland, Pond, and Plant Explorers students click on objects in the pictures to learn about the different parts of those habitats. The Dragonfly Challenges are a series of webquests through which students can explore the topics of biodiversity, rivers, ponds, and woodlands. The Eco Explorer section of Nature Explorers is built around the topics of recycling and eco-responsibility." - http://www.freetech4teachers.com/2012/04/online-nature-center-for-kids.html

William Eberhard, of the Smithsonian Tropic Research Institute and the University of Costa Rica, and colleague Daniel Briceno film spiders in the lab, in the field and under a dissecting microscope to untangle this longstanding arachnological mystery. The secret to not getting stuck? Oily, hairy legs and delicate movements. (Credits: Images courtesy of Gustavo Hormiga/The George Washington University. Welcome to "The Gardens of Eden", a web site dedicated to my photographic adventures. Although you will find many genre's of photography here, my specialty is nature and conservation photography. Specifically, I love working with reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates with an emphasis on showing the "Beauty in the Beast". As far as conservation, I work with a number of organizations utilizing images to help tell their stories. As the saying goes, a picture can be worth a thousand words....
a round-up some of the resources about the Arctic and Antarctic regions
Although 2012 has only just begun, the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, Virginia (SCBI-FR), already has something to celebrate in the new year: the birth of four Maned Wolf pups Jan. 5. It is the first litter born at SCBI-FR in two years and will play an important role in helping researchers maintain a viable, self-sustaining population under human care.
Since the summer of 2011, Switzerland's Zoo Basel has been working behind the scenes with their new breeding vivarium equipment called "Plankton Kreisel". It ensures that baby jellyfish float like the ocean - in a continuous flow. They are so delicate that they could not withstand the corners found in normal tanks. Thanks to a new method of breeding and rearing, they are thriving.
This arcade is a portal to games and interactive activities focused on ocean and air themes. It highlights the science and the activities of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and other agencies and organizations promoting environmental stewardship.
The clips are mostly taken from the output of the award winning Survival natural history unit, with a number also from Partridge Films and Granada Wild, plus a variety of other sources. The collection also includes recent ITV wildlife programmes, such as Lion Country and Survival with Ray Mears. A small proportion of the programmes were filmed in zoos and it will be clear from what is seen in the clips where this is the case.
"We are committed to the conservation of habitats and species for the health of the planet and for our own pleasure. We are continually amazed by the incredible natural wonders right here on our doorsteps, in our towns and across all the 48 countries in Europe. And we love to be out there ourselves."
David Attenborough presents a ten-part insight into the evolution and
behaviours of birds. In this first programme, computer graphics
recreate the period 150 million years ago when small, fast-running
dinosaurs evolved feathers and took to the air. In New Zealand, David
examines the environment required by birds which have survived without
recourse to flight, and enjoys a midnight encounter with a kiwi,
captured on a starlight-sensitive camera.
"A museum is the intersection between art and science."

The book contains a songwriting guide and 8 lessons and original songs as well as a video. She would love if you would download the book and ideally use them with your students. The topics will obviously span a range of grade levels as well as the songwriting guide would be useful for many ages
The mathematics of murmurating starlings
A 'murmuration' is a spectacular sight but, as Daniel Butler reports, it's all about survival for starlings.
