Class 1F decided to support a charity called 'Animals Asia Foundation' after Miss Franklin showed the class pictures of moon bears that live in China. Miss Franklin told the students about how the bears are kept in very small cages all day, every day, and are often in pain. The students also found out that there are lots of bears in China that are treated very badly on bile farms. Animals Asia takes them out of the farms, and gives them medical care, and a safe and happy place to live - but they need lots of help from other people too. Animals Asia also works hard to stop bile farming. Below is the letter 1F wrote to the bears after we had taken action:
Action from someone involved in the PYP can be as simple as a student wanting to share with someone what they are learning about or even wanting to go to the library to continue their learning of a particular topic. Or, it can be an action like writing to their congressman or corporate CEO about an issue that was raised during a unit on sharing the planet.
