"Math Moves U is a fun math video game site. Math Moves U has three levels of difficulty; grade 6 or lower, grade 7, and grade 8 or higher. To play the games students first choose from one of eight customizable characters to be in the game. Then they walk through scenery, along the way they are confronted by math games that appear before them. Points are earned by answering math questions correctly." explore the prime numbers as well as their relationships to other numbers. By scrolling in any direction, you can pan through the numbers and zoom in and out to see the patterns more clearly.
The NRICH Project aims to enrich the mathematical experiences of all learners. To support this aim, members of the NRICH team work in a wide range of capacities, including providing professional development for teachers wishing to embed rich mathematical tasks into everyday classroom practice.
On our website you will find thousands of our free mathematics enrichment materials (problems, articles and games) for teachers and learners from ages 5 to 19 years. All the resources are designed to develop subject knowledge, problem-solving and mathematical thinking skills. The website is updated with new material on the first day of every month.
The eye and the intellect play off one another in surprising and beautiful ways in the art of M.C. Escher. Where the Renaissance masters used shading and perspective to create the illusion of three-dimensional depth on two dimensional surfaces, Escher turned those tricks in on themselves to create puzzles and paradoxes. He manipulated our faculties of perception not simply to please the senses, but to stimulate the mind.
Encalc is an online scientific calculator. Key features include the ability to handle units and dimensional analysis, to perform symbolic algebra and calculus, to define variables, and to lookup values from its large database of physical constants. Since many pupils walk around with smartphones these days and have tablet computers or laptops at home, I wanted to develop a series of notes and worked examples that they could have on them all the time. Well, now they can! Check out this video that explains all:
The Maths eBook of Notes and Examples
A useful fraction tool for your whiteboard. Show virtual fraction tiles to your class to aim their understanding of the relative size of the fraction.
A few years back I took the workshop Mathematics in the PYP in The Netherlands. One of the learning experiences I took away and still use today was turning the multiplication tables into spirolaterals.
By doing this the students can:
-practice and learn their times tables
-see patterns in their times tables
-inquire into why some times table spirolaterals look similar to others
-predict how other times table spirolaterals will look based on the tables they have already done
-Have Fun!
This is a collection of living math books and stories that can be used to teach and/or reinforce various mathematical skills.
The books are divided into categories based on the mathematical skill addressed in the book. To search the categories, please click the tab to the right labeled "Search Categories."
This is a collection of movie clips in which Mathematics appears. To see the movies larger, or to see it on the iphone/ipad or to include a clip into a presentation, chose the quicktime ipod version. These are the files with .m4v extension.
very simple little website that lets students create geometric snowflakes using basic shapes and a grid. To make their flake, students choose a shape and click a spot on the grid. Students can add as many or as few shapes as they would like to their flake. When they are done the flake can be viewed off of the grid for a screen shot that can be included in other projects or it can be printed off.
Using the Hohli Online Charts Builder you can create bar graphs, line graphs, pie charts, Venn diagrams, scatter plots, and radar charts. To use create your chart first select the type and size of display that you desire. Then fill in the corresponding form with the information that you want displayed. Your chart will be generated as you enter information so that you can see how each piece of information influences the chart. When you're satisfied with your chart just click on it to save it to your computer or to grab the embed code to use on your blog or website.
