While color is a purely visual phenomenon, the way we see color is not only a matter of our visual systems. It is well known that we are faster in telling colors apart that have different names, but do the names determine the colors or the colors the names? Recent work shows that language has a stronger influence than previously thought.
3 Fun Games to Teach Haiku Poems to Kids
A Haiku is more than just a poem. It is a method of writing that requires focus, good vocabulary, and a firm understanding of syllables and the flow and rhythm of words as you lay them together.
Here's something you should know about yourself. Vowels control your brain.
This lesson explores the use of verbs to add dramatic interest to poems. The activities will encourage pupils to think more carefully about the use of verbs to describe action and should enable them to develop their knowledge of verbs and stimulate them to write more descriptive poems. The whiteboard activities will encourage whole class/group discussion, collaboration and participation.
The book contains a songwriting guide and 8 lessons and original songs as well as a video. She would love if you would download the book and ideally use them with your students. The topics will obviously span a range of grade levels as well as the songwriting guide would be useful for many ages

Last spring, Julie Johnstone, a librarian at the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh, was wandering through a reading room when she saw, sitting alone on a random table, a little tree.

Instructions:
Click this link, the language plant maker. If you need to install Silverlight, please do so. Most of you should have it already.
Click on the screen and type in a word.
To change the angle, click and drag the first or last letter of the word.
To bend or resize the word, click and drag on the two circles.
To change the colour of the word, you’ve got to click on the Bend circle first.
(Yes, there are a few things that aren’t as intuitive as we’d like; we’ll fix those. And don’t worry about colouring the words grammatically either – more colours to come.)
Finally, if a word goes haywire, just press delete on your keyboard and start again
The Poetry Archive exists to help make poetry accessible, relevant and enjoyable to a wide audience. It came into being as a result of a meeting, in a recording studio, between Andrew Motion, soon after he became U.K. Poet Laureate in 1999, and the recording producer, Richard Carrington. They agreed about how enjoyable and illuminating it is to hear poets reading their work and about how regrettable it was that, even in the recent past, many important poets had not been properly recorded.
The Hypnotiser
The Hypnotiser - is this the world's first video poetry book?
I wrote a book of poems for children called 'The Hypnotiser' some years ago and then it went out of print. I couldn't get anyone to reprint it, so I asked my son Joe to film me performing the book for this website. All you need to do is click on whichever poem you want in the list on the right.
There are second hand copies of 'The Hypnotiser' available on various sites on the web, most obviously at Amazon, abe Books.com and ebay. Tell me if you like it, and if you do, I'll do the other books of mine that are out of print like 'Mind Your Own Business', 'Wouldn't You Like to Know', 'When Did You Last Wash Your Feet?' 'Never Mind' and 'Who Drew on the Baby's Head?' and 'You Tell Me' (which I wrote with Roger McGough).
Poet Michael Rosen, author of 140 books and UK Children’s Laureate from 2007 to 2009, speaks in this excellent and very wise online video about poetry and helping children cope with emotionally difficult times. Well worth watching!
By using the Text-Image Generator you can easily create your individual text art image. Unlike other ASCII and text converters the content of an image is represented by different letter scaling. The text to be used is up to you. Depending on your needs, the photos can be converted images with two or more colors. This web application is optimized for large images to print them out later.
