We live in a colorful World. Colors are used to express feelings and enliven language. Color motivates, excites, draws attention and provides emphasis. Many of the fundamentals of color combinations and usage are based on observing our mother nature.
The easiest way to understand colors and how they work together is through The Color Wheel. The three primary colors are red, blue, and yellow; they cannot be made by mixing any other colors.
With colors you can set a mood, attract attention, or make a statement. You can use color to energize, or to cool down. By selecting the right color scheme, you can create an ambiance of elegance, warmth or tranquility, or you can convey an image of playful youthfulness. Color can be your most powerful design element if you learn to use it effectively.
This color wheel shows the primary colors, secondary colors, and the tertiary colors. It also shows the relationships between complementary colors across from each other on the color wheel, such as blue and orange; and analogous (similar or related) colors next to each other on the color wheel such as yellow, green and blue. Black and white may be thought of as colors but, in fact, they are not. White light is the presence of all color - black is the absence of reflected light and therefore the absence of color.
Color wheels show us how colors are related. They remind artists how to mix and think about colors.
