LONGBOATS!
H contacted, email below.
Thank you for your e-mail. This sounds like a really interesting project! By the criteria that you are seeking the only site that I know of that hosts a re-enactment or costumed recreation actually on the field of battle, so to speak, is the Battle of the Boyne centre in Co. Meath. Our company provides the living history re-creation at the site, but you would have to seek permission to film there directly from the site manager, Aisling McMahon. Her e-mail is aisling.mcmahon@opw.ie .
There is not a re-enactment of the battle per se, but we do provide firing cannon and musketry crews, pikemen, mounted cavalry and dragoon displays on a weekly basis throughout the summer and for special guests on occassion. The site itself is maintained by the Office of Public Works, a government body, and extends to over 400 acres of park and woodland. The battle of 1690 took place over a wide ranging front, but the main battle site is directly in front of the Visitor Centre in Oldbridge House.
May I suggest that you contact Ms. McMahon directly; we would be more than happy to work with Simon in any capacity.
Regards,
Lynne Williams
Irish Arms.
H contacted, awaiting response. Do a range of events including one with a viking longship, which is pretty small and a bit cartoony.

Not on a battle site but could prove a useful contact.
Has a multi-period re-enactment event but it's history is also multi-period so could be really interesting.
Call Ciaran: 00353-87-991-9743 for a copy of the Re-Enactment Guidelines Pack, his email doesn't work. OUT OF DATE, PHONE AND EMAIL NOT WORKING.
Romans didn't get to Ireland so irrelevant to Simon's project, however could connect us to another more useful group.

Vikings
29th August - 6th September 2009. Seems like a small event but they have a round tower in the background of their photographs, so could be a good image.
H contacted project very interesting but not planning on any voyages to Ireland in 2009 so not suitable for this year. Did the voyage from Dublin to Denmark in June-August 2007 and 2008. Contact: "Preben Rather Sørensen" <prs@vikingeskibsmuseet.dk>
Irish living history site. Hasn't been updated since 2004 and seems very small but the main photo has longboats in the background. Try email: declan.kenny@unison.ie

Irish War of Independence
H contacted, awaiting response. Check if only for films or if S might be interested in this anyway, they've been dressing up as Cromwell and the Black and Tans for filming in Ireland, they are certainly not normal extras.
