Saddle stitch printing, which is popular in snail mail newsletters to create an eight PP layout, is explained here.
A saddle stitched booklet is produced by printing double side pages and applying staples to the centre fold of the book to hold the book together as per diagram 1.
Diagram 1. Saddle Stitched Booklet
Saddle stitched books are layed out so that each printed double sided page makes up 4 pages of the finished booklet. Finished pages in a booklet are referred to as PP's. Diagram 2 shows a 4pp document that is made up of a single double sided sheet folded in the middle with no staples.
Excellent and an elaborate resource for finding out the standards in international printing.
