• Web collaboration provides an organization with the capability to collaborate with customers or internally via the Internet in real time. Web collaboration packages generally consist of Web-based tools within Web sites to assist an organization in the area of sales, new revenue-generation opportunities, and to enhance customer satisfaction. Web collaboration is essentially the back-end software or service that allows your center to share Web pages with customers while offering voice and text chat assistance or to conduct single or multi-user conferences and seminars. Web collaboration can be used in an Internet (IP) environment or integrated with an organizations' existing telephone infrastructure to provide automated customer assistance for a client's Web-based inquiries.

A good, secure tool, will also allow the owners of the online collaboration workspace to set authorization levels for its participants. This means that while some people will be able to only read the documents, others can make changes but not everyone can delete documents.
• Virtual collaboration is good for organizations of any size, as long as there is interest in working together over the Internet
• The Internet has enabled an increasingly dispersed workforce, and it's not uncommon to see modern-day employees working with people from all over the world. Collaborating online is the perfect way to diminish the distance between employees, as they can work together on the same documents, at the same time as if they were all in the same room. This means that projects can be done much faster, as there is no need to send documents back and forth between offices, and it also means that communication between employees is improved.

SoundCloud gives musicians the opportunity to share their music with other musicians and eventually the entire world. Their custom widget is also great for sharing on other sites
• Indaba is a Zulu word that refers to a gathering for sharing ideas. Indaba Music was launched in 2007 and have grown to be a leader in music creation, community and collaboration. Indaba has a basic, pro and platinum service available. They provide musicians from hobbyists to grammy winners with the tools to get noticed, get hired and get heard. Tools include everything from remix contests to an online DAW called Mantis.
• Kompoz considers themselves as the music collaboration social network. They offer a free account with basic benefits such creating your own personal profile and contribute and submit unlimited tracks. The Kompoz Plus account upgrades you to more audio format options, private sessions and a 15% discount to Abbey Road Mastering services. The cool thing about Kompoz is that they have a music player available on their site as well as an iPad and iPhone app that plays music from Kompoz members. • AceProject is a high-level web-based proprietary project management software developed by a Canadian company Websystems, Inc. based in Quebec City, Canada.^[2] The product is distributed both as software as a service (SaaS) and as on-premises software.

• AirSet is a privately held web services company based in Walnut Creek, California, United States, their service allows you to manage multiple groups in one place so you can see the roll up of all group calendars, share files across groups, and communicate with the important people in your life. The service is browser based with clients for iPhone, Android, and other mobile devices.
• AirSet is a Freemium service designed to let an individual manage all the important groups in their life in one place. Each group has its own private space, but members can see the roll up of all of their groups' data. For example, in the All Groups view members can see a color-coded overlay of their personal and group calendars

• When you group different people together to collaborate on one project or set of responsibilities, there may be a conflict in the working styles of the individuals within the group. This can be a disadvantage because it can hold up progress on accomplishing the job at hand, while team members instead muddle through conflicts caused by the different ways team members approach the work
• Collaborative efforts in the workplace can lead to innovative approaches to projects, new processes to accomplish key tasks and shared ideas on varied responsibilities. However, like any other office process, there are advantages and disadvantages to collaboration in the workplace. Understanding these pros and cons goes a long way toward addressing any conflict that may crop up as a result

• One of the advantages of collaborative efforts in the workplace is the way that the work is divided. When more than one person is involved in accomplishing a certain task, particularly when it is a large project, it helps for everyone to have a small portion of the responsibility to ensure things get done versus loading one or two people with too much work to accomplish the task

  When you have a collaborative group, you may sometimes end up with too many people trying to lead the group, and not enough members that are willing to take a backseat and just do what it takes to get the job done. This ill will can then bleed over into other areas of the work environment, causing more tension among the rest of the staff, including those that may not even be involved in the collaborative effort.

• A disadvantage I would think of would be the lack of meeting and seeing the person face to face.
  Sometimes it is harder to convey a meaning of a topic with typed words, and is easier in person

• To become successful in today's society, collaborative skills are needed and can be attained by working together with the help of the Internet, electronic mail, and discussion boards. The collaborative learning that takes place in online group work requires various characteristics to be in place to be successful.
• To become more effective and efficient collaborators, whether it is in a work environment, school setting, or other facility, people must become aware of its uses, develop habits that require its use, and maintain or follow certain protocols to facilitate best practice.
• Group work is the collaboration of a number of individuals to undertake some kind of project. Online group work involves using the Internet to facilitate collaboration by using tools, such as electronic mail, discussion boards, whiteboard discussions, and chat rooms. In order to use this type of communication, participants must be aware of the implications of its use. Therefore, several advantages and disadvantages must be noted before its successful use.

• The advantages of collaboration are many:

    
  1. In a healthy collaboration there's something in it for both parties, whether it's access to skills and resources or just working towards a common aim 
  2. You'll have a broader reach, as all the organisations involved in the collaboration will have different networks and mailing lists to spread the word on - which means that more sectors of the community will hear about your campaign 
  3. You'll gain access to new skills as the various organisations that have these skill sets come on board 
  4. It's a good opportunity to widen your own networks 
  5. If more organisations are involved you'll increase your own credibility 
  6. More and more funding bodies like to see collaborations, so this will certainly work in your favour in grant applications - not to mention the fact that a wide range of costs for the campaign could then be shared 
  7. The other organisations will be able to provide you with in-kind resources 
  8. These sorts of collaborations tend to lead to ongoing relationships, which will help you with future campaigns
• Disadvantages

   Collaborations are generally a good idea, for all the reasons mentioned above. However, there are some circumstances where you at least need to be careful and to put safeguards in place to overcome a few potential problems.

   
  1. Collaborations can mean that your campaign moves more slowly, because you need to get consensus or check with the other players regarding every decision - so make sure you have a good understanding of the levels of autonomy that you have. 
  2. You'll be more restricted in what you can do. Certain tactics your group might follow, or positions that your group might ordinarily take, may not be agreed on by other members of your collaboration. 
  3. In-fighting between parties may emerge, and few things could be more damaging to a cause. These squabbles often become public, but even if they don't people in the organisation often finish up acting according to their own micropolitical agendas rather than on the basis of what's good for the campaign.
