Can I work this into the grade 8 class
Both the Internet and the way young people use technology are constantly changing, but Internet safety messages change very slowly if at all. A few years ago, some of us in the Net safety community started talking about how to adjust our messaging for the much more interactive "Web 2.0." Can I work this into the grade 8 class
The Media Awareness Network has always been one of my favourite resources since I started spending more time online with kids in my classroom. While I'm not big on republishing press releases, I thought this one was worth sharing.
Tonight I presented "Popular Issues in (Digital) Media Literacy" to my EC&I 831 students. The presentation covered various topics such as: offensive content (bad taste, sexuality), viral videos & memes, misinformation (satire, hoaxes, scams, phishing), safety & cyberbullying, hate (racism & violence), social networks & privacy. It was very much a survey approach to the topic in hopes that my students will understand the broad scope of related issues.
Teens and Social Media: The use of social media gains a greater foothold in teen life as they embrace the conversational nature of interactive online media
Good idea for a parent share at SSIS have kids run the presentation. This list is a collection of resources I've found concerning internet safety. My students will be creating a presentation to give to their parents on the teens-eye view of internet safety. Please feel free to leave any comments and/or suggestions.
These are resources that I use in my Cyberbullying and Cybersafety presentations and classes.
"Following through on plans announced a few months ago, Facebook is rolling out changes on Wednesday to its privacy settings intended to make them simpler to adjust and understand by its 350 million end users."

After our ICT meeting last night I created a list of different sites dealing with cyberbullying, cybersafety. I also added some lists that have some great links in them as well.
