Gary Patton's List: religion

  • Sep 22, 13

This article compellingly documents how the use of the extra-Biblical word "church" instead of the accurate translation "assembly" or "congregation" came from those who had a bias towards a hierarchical and nob-scriptural form of church government.

To have translated the word "ekklesia" accurately into "assembly" or congregation" would have exposed their form of church government as being in error.

Romans 11:17-21 seems to include a warning that some "Replacement Theology" adherents and, especially, its pulpit teachers would be wise to prayerfully take to heart.

This is especially true regarding the antisemitic undertones that can slime this theological position in some Christians, even true Jesus Followers.

"Sin is Not Without Consequences for Christians"

    Christians Beware!

In Luke 12:47-49, Jesus clearly warns us that we will suffer severe consequences ...even in Christ... when we do not act on what we know to be right.

Because Jesus died for our sins and rose from the grave to cover them as proof of His Father's acceptance of God the Son's sacrifice for our awful behaviour, does not mean He ignores our sin when we KNOW better.

Luke 12:47-4 seems to confirm a crucial Biblical principle of justice. It is that the more knowledge we have that our action is wrong, the more guilty we are, and the more deserving of punishment.

  • Only savages would inflict the kind of barbarism on their own children documented in the article at the link below!

Islam is a peaceful religion, eh?

Plus, this kind of barbarism is COMMANDED by Islam's two most important Holy Books against all Muslim co-religionists ...in addition to their own children and other relatives!

Barbarism against all non-Muslims, especially Christians and Jews, is also confirmed and taught, as still valid, by the Schools of Jurisprudence, of every Muslim sect ...not just the insane, Shi'ite Mullahs and political leaders of Iran and the greedy Salafists and Kings of Saudi Arabia.

BTW, one of Islam's Holy Books, by the command of the Muslim deity, Allah, (NOT our judeo-christian One God, is supposed to be Jesus' Gospel of peace!

  • "The Myth of the Existence of a Christian Nation"

Messiah Jesus (Yeshua) came to earth and established His movement to serve the world with Christ-like love, among other reasons. He didn't die on His cross so His Followers could rule in any way in this age. Jesus Followers are called to "look like" both an individual and a collective Jesus.

Individually, we are called to take up our cross daily on behalf of those who love us as well as those who hate, and even, persecute or try to kills us. We are commanded to actively and creatively resist evil, in all it's forms. But we must do so, Jesus says in Matthew 5:38-45 at http://diigo.com/0kmlr , non-violently ...even at the risk of our lives.

In any one nation state, the ekklesia, the collective Body of Christ in that nation ...not the traditional institutional church... is NOT called to be a religious version of Caesar. Our secular states, not Jesus Followers, are to "bear the sword" against foreign and domestic enemies as Paul says in Romans 11.

We are each called to manifest the kingdom of the cross in contrast to the kingdom of the sword. Whenever the traditional "church", rather than the real "ekklesia" has succeeded in gaining what many evangelicals in Canada and the U.S. are now trying to get ...political power... it has been disastrous both for the church and the culture, e.g., think about any manifestation of Christian political party, any where in the world.

Whenever the church picks up the sword, it lays down the cross. The present activity of the so-called "religious right" in both Canada and the U.S. is destroying the heart and soul of true evangelicalism plus our unique witness to the world.

The ekklesia is to have a political voice. And we are to have it the way Jesus had it ...by manifesting an alternative to the political, 'power over,' way of doing life. We are to transform the world by being willing to suffer for others, non-violently, as we allow Jesus to live His life out through us, not by getting our way in society through exercising non-supernatural, worldly power over institutions.

No nation state is the Kingdom of God, in whole or in part.

"'The god of This Age' Blinds The Lost ...Prayer Loosens His Hold"

2 Corinthians 4:3-4 makes clear that someone or something prevents many, called unbelievers in the Christian New Covenant (Testament), from hearing the "Gospel" (Good News") of Jesus of Nazareth.

Irrespective of the debate about who or what, that god (small 'g') may be, there can be no real debate about Whom the Biblical Christ mentioned in this passage is. He IS historical, real Jesus of Christian Bible ... NOT the ahistorical, mythical Isa of the Islamic Qur'an.

This is true regardless of what some Christians or churches teach, as I outline in my e-Sticky Note comments below.
