"Mark Foley and Diane Hall state in their book "Advanced Learners' Grammar"
We use will or won't to express statements of fact about the future e.g.The sun will rise at 5.30 tomorrow morning.
while Martin Hewings in his book "Advanced Grammar in Use" writes:
We prefer the Present Simple for fixed, unchangeable events. e.g. The sun rises at 5.16 tomorrow. (more likely than The sun will rise)
As far as I remember, V.Evans in her Round Up series allows both of the above mentioned structures in similar situations. Which of them is right?"
"are to work - формальное предписание. Грамматически правильно, но не совсем уместно, другой смысл.
might have worked - возможно, отработают. Тоже другой смысл, да и предложение придется переделать, чтобы оправдать использование might have worked.
are going to work - более разговорный вариант, так скорее может сказать один студент другому.
Лучше оставить will work."
