Although corporate players such as Dr Lal Pathlabs, SRL Diagnostics and Quest Laboratories are gaining share, the industry is largely fragmented with 88-90 per cent of the market dominated by unorganised players.
I would argue that pathologists must be physicians because our primary obligation is to the patient. Our obligation is to help the patient first, regardless of insurance pressures, surgeon intimidation, political expediency, or whatever might get in our way. Just like we said we would when we took the Hippocratic Oath. If you look at the surgeon/dermatologist/gastroenterologist as a surrogate for the patient, asking for your help in the patient’s stead, then the pathologist-patient relationship makes sense and can serve as a starting point for looking at new ways to practice our specialty.

Lot that could be said here but pathologists do this to themselves. Does every pathology image require pathologist contribution – I do not think so. But the larger issue is lack of involvement with other medical specialties to involve ourselves in multispecialty projects. These findings, ironically, are published in a pathology journal.
Among malpractice claims, diagnostic errors appear to be the most common, most costly and most dangerous of medical mistakes.
The U.S. Attorney noted that, in the seven-year period of 2006 through 2013, Biodiagnostics pulled in revenue of more than $200 million and its president personally took $33 million in cash distributions out of the medical laboratory company during that period of time.

Studies performed in the United States show that, for ambulatory patients, doctors fail to follow up on as many as two-thirds of medical laboratory test results and up to one-third of radiology reports! A recent review of 19 of these studies also showed that these failures resulted in serious lapses in patient care.
Leiomyoma has been reported in other organs but renal leiomyoma is rare tumour, though in autopsy series they are second in order of frequency among the renal mesenchymal neoplasms, and few cases have been described in the literature. Still no Indian experience is evaluated on this rare site of occurrence.
Primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) has recently been divided into five subtypes by the Columbia classification. However, little is known about the incidence of these subtypes in the Indian population. In addition, there are very few studies evaluating the clinico-pathologic features with morphometric parameters in these subtypes. This study was aimed at evaluating the clinical, histopathological and morphometric parameters in various subtypes of FSGS at AIIMS.

TB application is an important adjunct to the clinical examination because it may not only increase the clinical suspicion of the examination but also assist in identifying sites in need of biopsy and delineating margins of the lesions, which may lead to a more timely diagnosis allowing benefits of earlier treatment and in directing surgical management.
Successful cytologic examination of the GI tract is highly dependent on the skill of the endoscopist, specimen preparation, the expertise of the pathologist, and the recognition of the limitations of cytology. This article reviews the key cytologic features of important GI tract lesions, differential diagnoses, and pitfalls, and addresses the advantages and limitations of different collection techniques.
Rhinoscleroma, also known as Mikulicz disease, is a chronic progressive disease caused by Klebsiella rhinoscleromatis. The disease is uncommon in Delhi. There are no cytological references of this disease. We describe the cytological features which should alert the pathologist to rule out this entity, which needs to be treated early. Immunohistochemistry on histopathological material is a useful adjunct to the diagnosis.
