Hi All,
After my desperate attempts to make this work in linux, i got an idea to try in a unix box. Then when i tried there, i observed the same behaviour. At that time, i did a man select in unix, and found a statment about pipes. "Pipes are ready for reading if there is any data in the pipe, or if there are no writers left for the pipe. "
This is exactly why my select didnt block at all. No writer has opened it for writing. So, select returned with 1.
Solution: After opening the FIFO in read mode, i opened it in write mode also though i am not using the file descriptor for further processing.
Now the same program works perfectly fine both in linux and in unix.
Somehow linux man pages didnt say this. Or atleast as far as my eyes could scan, I could not find it, which had caused a tremendous delay in my deadlines. Thanks to unix man pages. I solved it atleast now. Better late than never or work with workarounds.
Thanks a lot for guiding me to this. Your inputs were very helpful to finish my activity.

Is this captured in the dbus implementation in the platform?
