• Too often each year students find themselves in situations that could be easily avoided if they understood what a positive digital footprint is and how to manage it. The same thing with teachers. Many times I hear of teachers who flat out avoid any (or make a very strong attempt) to leave no trace on the web
• The point here is to start using the same identity across multiple services so solidify yourself. And try to use your actual name or a simple variation.

• Twitter and a blog. These are places where you can further establish who you are, what you are about what what you want to say.

• It is also important not to confuse managing a digital footprint with being hidden or private. Branding our identities has become more and more important in the digital age
• Who are you? What do you stand for? What are your passions and beliefs?

• A person’s online footprint is becoming an increasingly important part of their online brand. It makes sense that people should be promoting their brand (name) in a positive light. If someone is working hard, being creative, helping others or receiving awards, then surely promoting these skills and achievements online is a good thing. Students need to learn that using their real name online is not always a bad thing, it is part of creating a positive digital footprint that will be seen by others.

• The image you project in a proper business suit to potential employers is one thing and your Facebook profile picture may reveal something else.  Facebook started out as a network for college students. Now our bosses, co-workers and parents are creating accounts.  

   
• If you are not one of those people who read the fine print when agreeing to terms of service contracts, you should be aware that what you post publically could come back in the future to haunt you privately and professionally.

• teachers are probably fine playing music they purchase over iTunes for students in their class. They are NOT fine using those songs without permission in videos they republish to the Internet, however, in their entirety. Shorter segments of songs CAN be used in ways that conform to fair use law, however.
