It only takes about 1.2 kilograms of wild fish to grow 1 kilogram of salmon. The feed includes trimmings and byproducts from other fisheries which would be thrown away otherwise, and reduces the need to take more fish out of the ocean. Take a look at IFFO.net to see the latest feed conversion ratios, and see how efficient salmon are compared to other farmed animals like cows, pigs and chickens.
