This is the index page for the publication, "Teaching Our Youngest: A Guide for Preschool Teachers, Childcare, and Family Providers". It draws from scientifically based research about what pre-school teachers and childcare providers can do to help children develop their language abilities, increase their knowledge, become familiar with books and other printed materials, learn letters and sounds, recognize numbers and learn to count.
This paper will present a curriculum development process for the integration of readily available technlogies in
early childhood curricula. It will describe a step-by-step framework and give examples based on the development
of the Ready to Go Curriclum, a Microsoft® PowerPoint™-based curriculum used for promoting phonological
awareness among young children. Multimedia considerations related to extraneous cognitive overload with young
children and the opportunity that integration of readily available technology into the curriculcum will be
discussed.
