The goal of the State Bar of Wisconsin's Law-Related Education website is to help educators, students, and the public learn about and understand the legal system through publications and programs that provide active, hands-on experiences. We accomplish this through the volunteer efforts of judges, attorneys, educators, and citizens.
The mission of the Standing Committee on Law Related Education for the Public is to develop, implement, and administer law-related education programs that will enhance the understanding of the legal system and the role of lawyers in our society, including programs which educate the public and students of all ages about the important role of lawyers and judges, the importance of an independent judiciary for the proper administration of justice, and which foster an interest in students to respect our justice system and consider pursuing careers in the law.
The Law-Related Education (LRE) Department of the State Bar serves as a catalyst to advance law related and civic education programs throughout the state by curriculum development, educator training, and grant administration. Working with the legal community, public and private school districts, universities, and Regional Educational Service Centers, the department administers numerous programs designed to improve the administration of justice and promote civic education and participation. In 2003, over 4,000 participants attended a LRE workshop, institute, or conference.\n

LRE seeks to achieve this goal by fostering the skills of critical thinking, logical analysis, reasoned argument, diplomatic discourse, and tolerance for opposing views.

The CBA Public Legal Education Department has a library of educational materials related to law and justice. Curricula, texts, publications, videos, workbooks, and handbooks on the constitution, practical law and mock trials are available for any grade level.
In addition, a small selection of videos are available with practical tips in such areas as buying a house, small claims, doing your own divorce, evictions, etc.
The Law Related Education (LRE) Program offers K-12 teachers a wide variety of strategies for including LRE in their social science education curriculum. The program's outreach efforts fall into four key categories: teacher workshops, exhibitions at teacher conferences, the Bar's Journey Through Justice collaboration, and The LRE Circuit newsletter publication.
During his keynote address at the State Bar of Georgia's 2005 Bar Center Dedication Ceremony, United States Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy told attendees, "One of the greatest duties of any generation, and particularly of its bar, is to transmit the idea of freedom and the rule of law to the next generation." He urged Bar leaders to use the Bar Center to "invite young people to come inside the law." The Bar's Law-Related Education (LRE) program was created in response to this proclamation.
