Rubrics sound good in theory, but they're often pretty terrible. Assigning numbers to categories of performance isn't enough -- you need to describe what a "5" actually looks like. Here's a good example of a rubric that would guide students and help them improve their performance. It was created by Darren Kuropatwa, a teacher in Winnipeg, Canada.
