  Definition - What does Digital Immigrant mean?
• A digital immigrant is an individual who was born before the widespread adoption of digital technology. The term digital immigrant may also apply to individuals who were born after the spread of digital technology and who were not exposed to it at an early age. Digital immigrants are the opposite of digital natives, who have been interacting with technology from childhood.
• Some digital immigrants surpass digital natives in tech savvy,
• early exposure to technology fundamentally changes the way people learn.
• For North America, most people born prior to 1980 are considered digital immigrants.

• ` Multimodal System: A Definition
  In the general sense, a  multimodal system supports communication with the user through different  modalities such as voice, gesture, and typing. Literally, `multi' refers  to `more than one' and the term `modal' may cover the notion of  `modality' as well as that of `mode'. 
  • Modality refers to the type of communication channel used  to convey or acquire information. It also covers the way an idea is  expressed or perceived, or the manner an action is performed. 
  • Mode refers to a state that determines the way information is  interpreted to extract or convey meaning. 

• Multimodal texts are defined as texts which communicate their message using more than one semiotic mode, or channel of communication. Examples are magazine articles which use words and pictures, or websites which contain audio clips alongside the words, or film which uses words, music, sound effects and moving images.
