• Digital Citizenship is a concept which helps teachers, technology leaders and parents to understand what students/children/technology users should know to use technology appropriately.

• Digital literacy is more than knowing how to send a text or watch a music video. It means having the knowledge and ability to use a range of technology tools for varied purposes. A digitally literate person can use technology strategically to find and evaluate information, connect and collaborate with others, produce and share original content, and use the Internet and technology tools to achieve many academic, professional, and personal goals.

• Established and internationally accepted² definitions of digital literacy are generally built on three principles: 

   
  • the skills and knowledge to access and use a variety of digital media software applications and hardware devices, such as a computer, a mobile phone, and Internet technology
   
  • the ability to critically understand digital media content and applications
   
  • the knowledge and capacity to create with digital technology.

• Digital Law relates to crimes of stealing or causing damage to other people’s work, identity, or digital property.

• Digital Law deals with four main topics: copyright, privacy, ethical issues, and piracy.

• Digital Law encompasses a wide range of legal areas - it typically refers to traditional legal areas that have been revitalized with the internet and social media. Some of these include Social Media Policies, Digital Defamation, Digital Reputation Management, Cybersquatting and even Digital Asset Trusts.

• When on social media platforms, students can express themselves in creative ways, in order to make a statement; align themselves with a group or belief; share information or their whereabouts; or to explain their mood, feelings, thoughts, reflections, or frustrations. This creative expression most certainly creates an online persona that is representative of the individual. This persona, brand, or digital identity, whether accurately or poorly portrayed, can have real life consequences or effects on that individuals life, so it is important for the Millennial generation to understand this, and seek to represent themselves in positive ways.

• From the real-life notion of identity, we develop the concept of identity as used online.
