Captioning Movies
Instructions from YouTube on how to add captions to a video you've uploaded.
Works by having you import the video from YouTube, paste in the transcript, break it up into chunks, and then listen to the video and mark where each chunk should appear. It creates the text of a caption text file (.sub format) with time codes that you can copy and paste into a text editor and upload to YouTube.
Allows you to import a video - even one you don't own from YouTube. You then play the video and add captions (type or copy/paste) and set the duration of each one. needed. When you are done, you export the captions with time codes to upload to YouTube.
Great site with guidelines on captioning video - included good list of tools with descriptions.
Great resource on how to caption YouTube videos from Ohio State University
"Watch videos with subtitles in your language, upload your videos, create your own subtitles." Search for videos that may not be captioned in other places like YouTube, and you may find them here.
Converters
Tools for converting from one video format to another. Note you should read YouTube's terms of service, particularly the section on permissions and restrictions!
Save any online video as a flash (flv) file. Great for including a youtube video in a SMART Notebook file without having to have an Internet connection.
Flip Cameras
Even though Flip cameras are no longer being made and sold, there are still some out there, and these sites may be helpful. There are also now many other similar video cameras from other companies, and ideas for using Flip cameras can be applied to any similar camera.
Have questions about Flip video cameras? Check the "Did you know," "Guide me," and "Show me" for help with Flip cameras and video.
