Today marks the seventh anniversary of Jarche Consulting. With my semi-sabbatical just beginning, perhaps it’s a good time to reflect on some of what I’ve learned about being a freelance consultant. Here’s my advice:
Training Services: Social Media Strategic & Tactical Training, Digital Leadership & Mentorship, Digital Literacy Training, Corporate Communications and Cross-Media Training.
Traditional nine-to-five days spent at a desk are obsolete. At the same time, companies are fragmenting into dense, highly-interdependent networks – creating global business without boundaries.
"I still encounter a large number of public servants - from a variety of agencies and at a range of government levels (local to federal) - whose experience of social media is limited to Facebook and Twitter - or less.
Most appear to be unaware of the steps the Government has taken to integrate social media into business practices - mentioning the Gov 2.0 Taskforce and Declaration of Open Government provoke blank looks. Few have heard of the many civic tools and government initiatives that have taken place online - and even fewer appear to actually participate. "
"Optimism about the economy and the use of social media pervade a new report called the Small Business Success Index, a survey sponsored by Network Solutions® and the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. A few highlights from this wide-ranging report:"

"Every Cancer story is unique and each has the potential to help someone."
"Mercury enters Libra on Sunday shortly after 5:00 pm EDT. There it will join the Sun, Venus and Saturn. That will be four major, classical, visible objects in one sign. Astrologers refer to such a collection as a stellium. "
I started with the concept I borrowed from Etienne Wenger-Trayner, who has talked about the social artist as a person who makes the space for the social aspect of learning. Here is a quote from him from 2008 on David Wilcox’s blog which really resonates for me:
The following account of “Ancestral Notes” is attributed to Alexander MacKinnon (1848 - 1927) of Georgetown, Prince Edward Island. These were given to me by Archibald Forbes MacKinnon (Sudbury, Ontario) in the early 1980’s; shortly before his passing. I do not know where the original of this document resides.
