Programs to Create Podcasts
Audacity is a free cross-platform (can be used on Macs and PCs) software for the creation and editing of music files which can be download from this site. Additionally, this website offers an interactive manual which can be found in the menu bar on the left hand side of the main page to help new users get accustomed to the software.
As the name implies, this is resource for the creation and editing of sound files which is only available for Mac products. This does limits its effectiveness for classroom assignments.
Resources for Using Podcasts in the Classroom
This link will take you to an online book which offers good information regarding the multiple uses of podcasts in the classroom for both students and teachers. Additionally, this source gives alot of good tips for creating high-quality podcasts.
This resource offers a large collection of information about podcasting in education. It is particularly helpful because of good quality video tutorials for garageband and audacity which are embedded. Additionally, it provides a short list of possible student projects to give you an idea about how to utilize podcasts for projects.
Programs to Create Screencasts
Educreations is a resource for creating screencasts. It allows users to sign-up as either a student or a teacher. Additionally, it has an i-pad app that connects that allows users to work with either resource without loosing information.
PixiClip is a web-based resource which can be used to create sceencasts. It allows users to add both audio and video messages to their "doodle". Signing up requires users to create a user name so it can be used by both students and teachers alike. Once videos have been created they are linked within the site which does users a variety of privacy settings.
This site allows for both students and teachers to create screencasts and to publish their screencasts into a variety of formats. However, free accounts are limited to 15 minutes of recording time and this site does not allow users to draw while recording.
This is an i-pad app which allows users to use their i-pad to create screencasts. Additionally, within the ShowMe website is a list of preexisting screencasts which are aligned with Common Core lessons. Signing up can be done by teachers and students BUT does require users to list a birthday for "verification".

This is a short video tutorial which explains the majority of the tools within the Educreations app.
