Blended [or hybrid] learning has been defined as instances where an individual course includes a blend of digital and face-to-face learning experiences. Bernard Bull expands upon this definition and describes 5 examples of self-blending in which individual students or groups of students take the initiative to add or supplement learning experiences in a course with digital and/or face-to-face learning activities.
Backchannels give students a voice. They create a blended environment where teachers and students engage in both physical and online conversations so that learning is no longer confined to a single means of communication or even an arbitrary class period.
