• Nos prédécesseurs, qui vivaient solidement insérés dans l'époque du texte livresque, n'avaient nul besoin d'en explorer les débuts historiques. Leur aplomb se fondait sur le postulat structuraliste selon lequel tout ce qui est est d'une certaine façon un texte. Ce n'est plus vrai pour ceux qui sont conscients d'avoir un pied de part et d'autre d'une nouvelle ligne de partage. Ils ne peuvent s'empêcher de se retourner vers les vestiges de l'âge livresque afin d'explorer l'archéologie de la bibliothèque de certitudes dans laquelle ils ont été élevés. La lecture livresque a une origine historique, et il faut admettre aujourd'hui que sa survie est un devoir moral, fondé intellectuellement sur l'appréhension de la fragilité historique du texte livresque.

• Au-delà de son souci de la mise en page, Pierre Lombard est également conscient - que l'acte de lire s'insère dans un nouveau rapport au temps. Il veut alléger le fardeau de l'étudiant et rendre sa lecture plus rapide. Pour réduire la nécessité de feuilleter longuement les pages, il donne des titres de chapitres qui permettent au lecteur de trouver immédiatement ce qu'il cherche. Il dispose ses sententiae de manière telle que " celui qui_cherche n'ait pas besoin de tourner les pages de nombreux volumes, mais qu'il puisse trouver rapidement et sans effort ce qui l'intéresse ". Hugues insiste sur la patience, il demande que l'on savoure à loisir ce que l'on peut trouver dans la page. Pierre, lui, veut aider au maximum son élève à repérer facilement et vite le passage qu'il veut lire dans le livre.

   

  La lecture scolastique qu'invente la génération de Pierre Lombard fait contraste avec l'approche monastique d'un Bemard de Clairvaux, qui appelle ses moines à s'engager dans le dur labeur de " découvrir à grand-peine les délices cachées de l'Écriture ", et qui les met en garde devant " toute lassitude qui naîtrait des difficultés prévisibles qu'ils rencontreront dans cette quête ".

• But now, some of the most in-depth stuff I read comes from academics or businesspeople penning big blog essays
• The long take also thrives on the long tail.
• The real loser here is the middle take.
• This trend has already changed blogging. Ten years ago, my favorite bloggers wrote middle takes—a link with a couple of sentences of commentary—and they’d update a few times a day. Once Twitter arrived, they began blogging less often but with much longer, more-in-depth essays.
